Do You Know Someone Who is Interested in RCIA? Do you know someone who has not been baptized, someone that has

been baptized in another denomination, or someone who may have been baptized as a Catholic but never participated in the Catholic Church that is interested in learning more about the faith and what Catholics truly believe? If you do, invite them to attend RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Through RCIA people that are interested in the Catholic Church, can come to know the truth about the Catholic faith, ask questions, and explore if they are being called by God to join the Catholic Church in a safe and loving environment. RCIA discussions include, but are not lim-ited to: What is Faith? Who is Jesus? What do Catholics Believe? Do Catholics read and believe in the Bible? Do Catholics worship Mary and the Saints? Who is Who in the Church (e.g. Why is there a Pope?) Catholic Prayer and Practices. The person you are thinking about may be scared or un-sure of how to start and you may be just the person that God will use to touch their heart and change their life. RCIA will begin in September and we meet with the In-quirers on Sunday mornings from 10:30 until approxi-mately noon in the Education Building. If you know someone or have any other questions, please feel free to contact me, Tara Tollett at (817) 726-3321.

Communion call

As early as the year 150, the martyr Justin, in writing an

explanation of Christian worship to the Roman au-thorities, described the Sunday eucharist pretty much as we celebrate it today. At the end of the description, he notes that ministers take the eucharist from the Sunday as-sembly to those who were unable to be present. Perhaps these included people who were in prison for living according to the gospel, and those whose work (Sunday was a work day back then) kept them away. But almost certainly he meant the sick and the infirm, and those who were otherwise homebound. This is our ancient tradition: to love and cherish and to keep connected with those members of this community who cannot be with us on Sunday. When illness or infirmity keeps you from the Sunday assembly, ministers of communion will bring a word of scripture and the body of Christ to you. Call the parish office and we will set this up. The best time for this is Sunday, when the minister can come straight from the celebration of Mass. But other times can be arranged. Don’t worry about fasting before receiving communion: If you are able to, that’s fine. But be-cause of your condition, you are not obligated. The rite of communion for the sick is simple. It can be very brief if you are not feeling up to more. But nor-mally, it consists of some opening prayers and read-ings (similar to those at Mass). If you are able, you then offer some prayers for the world and the church. Your family, friends and caregivers can (and should!) participate in the rite. If they would normally receive communion at Mass, then they can share in commun-ion at this time, too. Before and after this simple, powerful rite of communion, you can visit with the minister or not, depending on how you feel. Sick or infirm, homebound or hospitalized, each bap-tized person is nonetheless part of this parish, a member of the body of Christ. So don’t be afraid that you’re being a burden, and don’t think that we’re so busy we wouldn’t have time for you. Regularly shar-ing in communion is an important part of our life to-gether as the church.

Ministry Fair Join us at the Ministry Fair after masses on Saturday August 26th and Sunday August 27th for a celebration of the many ministries supported in our par-ish. Consider ways that you can

be more fully involved in the life of our parish or consider new opportunities. Visit the fair and then prayerfully discern what special skills and talents God might be calling you to share in our par-ish. Through the gifts of time and talent that our parishioners so generously share, we can truly be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our parish. Many thanks to all those faithfully and generously support our parish! The Knights of Columbus will be providing a dinner after the Saturday evening mass and breakfast after Sunday morning mass. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
