During this special year declared by Pope Francis and dedicated to celebrating and offering thanks for the gift of consecrated life, Bishop Frank J. Dewane invites the faithful to join him at a Mass for all Women and Men Religious in the Diocese of Venice. The Mass is Saturday, October 31, 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Cathedral, 310 Sarasota Street, Venice . A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. This day offers an opportunity to honor the many men and wom-en who have given their lives in consecration to Jesus Christ.

HALLOWEEN

Halloween has its origins in the ancient pagan Celtic and Roman fall festivals which commemorated the new year and the passing of the dead. Pope Boniface VI set November 1 as All Saint's Day, known as All Hallowsmas, from Middle English Alholowmesse. When November 2 was made All Souls Day 200 years later, the three days' celebration was called Hallowmas. The customs of Halloween, costumes, food and parties evolved over time, some rooted in ancient rites, others in remem-brance of those who had died. These pa-gan feasts were Christianized by new meanings, although today it remains largely a secular holiday.

Maternity Home on Sunday, November 8, 2015.

The significant Bradenton structure is located at 1509 8th

Avenue West in the Historic Wares Creek District. It underwent substantial renovations this year, its 100th birthday. Open House and tours of the

home will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a ded-ication ceremony at 2:00 p.m.

Though SOLVE now has four maternity homes, this one was the first and the favorite of SOLVE's founder, Helen Cadoret.

At the ceremony, the historic home will be re-named "Helen's Home" in her honor. Cadoret died in 2011. She

single-handedly started SOLVE in 1976 as a crisis pregnancy center. SOLVE will soon be celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Local chapters of the Knights of Columbus will also be

honored on November 8th, in recognition of their contributions to the renovation project.

This is a great opportunity to see what goes on behind

closed doors at the area's first Maternity Home. Refreshments will be served,

REFLECTIONS FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION By : Alicia Pierzchala CHRIST TRULY PRESENT IN THE EUCHARIST You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down Your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. At the time He was betrayed and entered willingly into His Passion, He took bread and, giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying: Take this, all of you, and eat of it: for this is My Body which will be given up for you. In a similar way, when supper was ended, He took the chal-ice and, once more giving thanks, He gave it to His disciples, saying: Take this, all of you, and drink from it: for this is the chalice of My Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the for-giveness of sins. Do this in memory of Me. Most of us can repeat these words from memory with great ease but do we really think about what is happening as the priest prays these words? Do we truly understand that with the words of consecration the host and the wine become Jesus, His Body and his Blood?

Practice: Despite any distractions, try to focus on the words of the Eucharistic Prayer, the words of consecration at Mass. Try to focus on what is happening, what you are witnessing. Then, at Adoration, review what we have highlighted in the last several articles. Remember God as the One who holds the key to everything. Remember Jesus’ invitation to His living presence in the Eucharist. Remember Jesus showing His living Flesh and Blood to those who doubted. And now consider that all of this comes together as the priest prays the above words at Mass. Awesome and amazing isn’t it? Alicia Pierzchala

BIBLE INSIGHTS PSALM 126

Anyone who has really studied the Jewish nation will under-stand the remarks of Benjamin Netenyahu to the United Nations recently. If there is one characteristic that stands out about this people, it is their memory. Their experiences with slavery, poverty, lands destroyed as well as their Tem-ple, floods, enemies all around them, the Holocaust, have been carved into their memory, so it is understandable that they possess a certain amount of distrust of the outside world. At the same time, they also remember the many times God intervened in their lives and restored them to better times, encouraging them to continue on with hope in their hearts and trust that God will always takes care of them. So it is not surprising that the psalmist taps into this memory in today's Psalm 126, recalling their reaction to this favor of God by remembering when they return to Jerusalem, that they thought they were "dreaming." God is in charge, remember the lines

Those who sow in tears, will reap with cries of joy.

Those who go forth weeping, Will return with cries of joy.

Who hasn't had an experience of difficult times, full of worry and anxiety, only to have something unexpected happen which changed everything and the first word you uttered was most likely, "Thank God!" Whenever you find yourself in a similar dilemma read this Psalm and take heart.

God is in charge!

Around the Diocese Veterans Day Mass - The Annual Veterans Day Mass is being held at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 (Clark Road) in Sarasota (five miles east of I-75) on Wednesday, November 11 at 3:00 Opening ceremonies begin at 2:45 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Frank J.
