Introduction to the Liturgy of the Day

It is a great pleasure in the middle of these languorous sum-

mer months to sit back and listen to stories. The crowds in

the Gospel were able to do just that, for Jesus taught them

by telling parables. Parables made his lessons about the

kingdom of heaven memorable, in ways in which straight-

forward narration would fail. Now it is our turn to listen.

Let us savor them, ruminating on their rich images and con-

sidering their meaning in our lives.

Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word

God’s lenience and mercy are extolled throughout today’s

scriptures. Wisdom teaches us that God’s mercy gives us

all “good ground for hope.” The Holy Spirit helps us in our

human imperfection, Saint Paul explains. Jesus’ parables

illustrate that with God’s patience we can rise and shine

like the sun, even as part of a field of weeds or as seeming-

ly insignificant as a tiny mustard seed. Reassured, we sing

together, “Lord, you are good and forgiving.”

Thank you for mailing in your weekly offertory donation. Your

kindness is overwhelming. We truly appreciate your generosity.

Mail your offertory donation to:

82 Akron Street

Meriden, CT 06450

Also, during the weekday scheduled Masses we will have an

Offertory basket available near the

entrance of the Church if you would like to leave your do-

nation. Thank you again for your support!

The 2020 Mission Cooperative Appeal Collection

Our second collection this weekend is for the benefit of the

Diocese of Wa in Ghana through the annual Mission Coopera-

tive Appeal Collection. They are unable to join us in person

because of the coronavirus pandemic; nonetheless, we seek to

assist them with our prayer and financial support toward the

needs of their aged and sick priests.

We ask your generous response, especially in these difficult

times. Like the parables of the mustard seed and the yeast in the

week’s gospel, our compassionate sharing furthers the Reign of

God. Thank you for your kindness.

The master knows that pulling the weeds will

destroy the plants. He lets them grow together and

will separate them at the harvest. Jesus loves his

people and gives them time and space to change

their ways and follow him. If you are called to
