The Holy Communion service will be at 11am on Sunday 1st September. Please do come along and join us, you will be made most welcome and refreshments will be served after the service. The Pimms & Plants afternoon in July was a huge success with over 100 people visiting the beautiful garden at Willowcroft. The weather was perfect for a walk through the amazing variety of plants with a glass of Pimms! A huge thank you to all who helped and supported this popular event and of course to Di and Peter for giving us the opportunity to enjoy all their hard work and take home ideas for our own gardens. All funds raised were shared between St Faith’s Church and Age UK Central Friendship Club Peterborough. All monies raised in our fund raising events are put into the Fabric Account. This year we are hoping to have the church windows repaired or replaced where necessary. At the moment we do not know what the full cost will be but we are now in the process of obtaining quotations to give an idea of how much is needed. Updates will follow. Harvest Festival 2019. This year our Harvest Festival will be celebrated with the Holy Communion Service at 11am on the 6th October. This also the Feast Day of St Faith – a double celebration. Please do come along and help make this an extra special day. Light refreshments will be served after the service. Any help with cleaning and/or decorating the church would be greatly appreciated, please contact either Susan at Corner Cottage or Rita at Wilsthorpe Cottage. The church will be open every day as usual for anybody who would like to pop in and do their own decoration or leave donations. As in previous years St Faith’s will support Bourne Food Bank with any non-perishable offerings. There will be a list of suggested/needed items on the church notice board. Paperback books for sale! This is proving very popular with villagers and visitors alike. There are lots of books for sale in St Faith’s Church, 50p each or 3 for a £1 – a bargain! The selection is frequently refreshed.

Greatford Continued:
It was with great sadness we all learned of the sudden death of Richard, our dear Chef at the Hare and Hounds, on Friday 9th August. He will be missed very much by his ‘PUB’ family and friends. This tragic event brought to light the necessity for everyone to know about the defibrillator information, so please make a note of the details below. DEFIBRILLATOR INFORMATION FOR GREATFORD RESIDENTS. Greatford Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The Greatford Defibrillator is located on the outside wall of the Village Hall. The Project Leader is Dr David Trawford (14 Greatford Gardens Tel 01778 561 192). David’s team comprises ten volunteer residents trained to operate the Defibrillator and who know the code for unlocking it from the holder. Action to take if a person is unconscious and not breathing normally (and is therefore likely to have suffered a cardiac arrest): DIAL 999 for an ambulance, then call the Greatford Village Emergency Telephone System number 01778 252 911 (the number on your heart-shaped fridge magnet). - the first Defibrillator trained volunteer to answer the call will collect the Defibrillator and go to your location ASAP Unlocking code. If there is the need for a resident (who is not one of the ten trained volunteers) to collect the defibrillator in an emergency they will need the unlocking code. This is available in the pub or by phoning the Greatford call-out 01778 252 911 and ask for the code from the volunteer who answers the call, before they meet at the scene of the emergency. Alternatively, when the initial call is made to 999 requesting the emergency services, the caller should ask for the unlocking code for the Greatford defibrillator. If this was not requested during the initial 999 call, it can be requested in a follow-on call.
If you have any questions relating to this procedure please do not hesitate to contact David Trawford or Chris Granville-White (01778 561181)

West Deeping Heritage Group. Tuesday 24th September 7.00 for 7.30pm. The history of bulb-growing in East Anglia could hardly be presented by anyone more knowledgeable and closely involved than Johnny Walkers. His Dutch parents were bulb-growers who came to England in the 1930s and, stranded by war, moved to the appropriately named South Holland district of Lincolnshire, where they joined many other small-scale commercial nurseries who found the flat, fertile soil ideal for bulb-growing. Much of Johnny’s knowledge was picked up working in his parents’ nursery as a boy. A lot of old daffodil varieties were lost during the second world war, when growers were forced to plough up fields and grow food, but Johnny tracked many down and offered them alongside new introductions through his specialist mail-order company Walkers Bulbs. Johnny came to be known as having the “Midas Touch” for his huge haul of awards at both Chelsea and Harrogate flower shows and in 2003 the Daffodil Society made Johnny an honorary vice-president in recognition of his services to the daffodil industry. For over 25 years he was quality manager at Taylors Bulbs, the UK’s leading supplier of bulbs to garden centres, who took over his mail order business. Although he is now retired, his diary is still full with various daffodil matters. Contact: Maggie Ashcroft 017798 344768. West Deeping Village Hall. Regular classes are: Step Clog. How can I be a blessing to you?
What does church do?
I'm so pleased that I've had booking forms sent to me for the Pilgrimage next year (10, 11 & 12 July 2020 Pilgrimage to Walsingham). If you've not replied yet, or have some questions, then please get in touch. I've safely returned from the National Youth pilgrimage, a little exhausted and also filled with enthusiasm for next year. If you are, or you know any children, aged 11-18 and want to find out more then please ask me. The dates are Monday 3rd August to Friday 7th August 2020. It may be easier to show you some pictures so you can get an idea of how much fun we all have. Pilgrimage may not be for you, you may not feel confident with what church does. But I still want to be a blessing to, and for you. I've been with you for a year now. How time has flown by. It's so encouraging to have taken part in many baptisms, marriages and funerals. Apart from regular Sunday worship these 'life events’ are really important to village life and are critical to how I can help as well as trying my best to demonstrate God's love for all of us. Many people I've met across the seven parishes have felt excluded from our churches, or not wanted. I'm slowly working to demonstrate how welcome you all are. And if you tell me what you think or believe, then I can change some of what happens. As a minimum I can explain what actually happens. There's a good chance that there is a gap between what some of us think happens and what does go on. The small image above was the result of a request for a selfie at a marriage, "Oi Rev, can we have a selfie?. Marriages and Baptisms are usually joyful once the details are resolved. If you ask me you may be surprised at how flexible I and all of our churches are when it comes to planning these life-changing services. The blessing is easy to see as most(!) people leave happy. When it comes to funerals, time is often limited to arrange the details, and a degree of apprehension builds as some are unsure about how the Rector will react to the requests. I've already helped organise 26 services since I've been with you, and I hope and pray that the care we've given to each family has been a blessing. Each funeral is different and unique. It can be simple and prayerful, we can sprinkle the coffin with Holy water to remind us of the promises made at our baptism, or we can plan how to involve your favourite music, even if it's rock! I think Baptisms/Christening, Funerals and Marriage services can be a lasting blessing that holds us all together through the struggles and joy of life. If you'd like me to help then please get in touch.
