Parish Council. At the Annual Parish Meeting on 21st May, the Chairman Nigel

Ashby gave his annual report for the year, as did the Financial Officer David

Anderson, and the village hall Chairman Richard McDermott. This meeting was

followed directly with the Annual Parish Council Meeting, when Nigel Ashby

informed the meeting that he did not stand at the Election on 2nd May. Jon

Workman was proposed to be elected as Chairman, there were no other

nominations. The Clerk thanked Nigel for all his dedicated hard work on so many

issues in the village, including unpaid hedge cutting, and much more throughout

the past 20 years on the Council, many of which as Chairman, and also his

tremendous help and support to her. Mr David Anderson was elected as Vice

Chairman, and Responsible Finance Officer. The Parish Councillors elected

unopposed, in addition to Jon Workman and David Anderson, were Philip Britton,

Ibis Channell and Gemma Taylor, all of whom signed the statutory Acceptance of

Office and Pecuniary Interest forms, and the clerk sent them off to the SKDC

Officer by email. Lois Webb was asked if she would stand again as Clerk, and duly

elected. Among the topics discussed was the village hall. It was Alan Kaye’s

vision to use the money raised at their Christmas party in the village hall, to have

new toilets professionally installed, with incidental work (painting, spring cleaning

etc) to be done by volunteers in the village. Sadly Alan passed away just before

the Christmas Party, which he and others had worked so hard to organise. It was

a very popular and well supported event, so they hope that Alan’s vision would

be completed in his memory. The next Parish Council meeting is on Tuesday 16th

July in the Church (to be confirmed). All welcome. If you have any issues, contact

the clerk at [email protected]

Annual Church Charity Ride and Stride: The 2019 Ride and Stride event is to be held on

Saturday 14th September. This nationwide event is a major fundraiser for the Old Churches Trust. It is non-denominational and supports any church or chapel which is over 100 years old. The Trust provides encouragement and financial help to churches which are struggling to raise funds for urgent repairs to preserve the building. People across the UK raise funds through sponsorship by visiting as many churches as they can by walking, cycling, running, riding etc from 10am to 6pm. You can visit as many or as few churches as you wish and many of them will have people there to ratify your visit and provide a drink and, if you are lucky, biscuits. In Tallington, Anne Knox and David Tilson have participated in the event for many years and have raised considerable funds (plus Gift Aid) through sponsorship. Half the money raised is retained by our local church and the other half goes to the Old Churches Trust. As we have recently had lead stolen from our church roof extra money would be most welcome this year. Whilst Anne and David (both well past our three score years and ten!) are happy to continue cycling for this event we would welcome other striders and riders to join in, not least to widen the sponsorship field, as we tend to go to the same people for sponsorship each year, but also to make it more of a “Village Event”. David is the Tallington co-ordinator and can provide more details about the event and, when he receives the list of the churches, donations and identity forms, will pass them on to anyone interested in joining in this year’s event. Please contact David for more details on 01780 740508 or [email protected] 200 Club Winners in May: Julie Haslam 1st prize and James Chadwick 2nd prize: are also announced via a Facebook video post (showing the draw). Please follow our page ‘Tallington Village Hall’. Mobile Library Service: The Mobile Library service will be in Church Lane on Monday 8th July between 11.15 and 11.45am. CAN I [INSERT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO*] IN CHURCH?

Question: Can I get married? Can we arrange a funeral? Will you Baptise my/me…? Answer: Yes, Yes, Yes/YES! **

Saying Yes

I’ve not answered any enquiries with a “No” so far. And I would like everyone who lives in our parishes, all 2,200 of us, to use the Church for important occasions. It’s usually possible to marry in Church; you may be surprised about how the law and rules have changed over the years. You’ll always get a friendly and warm welcome from me, and I would love the opportunity to explain how marriage in Church works, or blessings after civil services. The common reason why I may have to say “no” is usually due to legal requirements. Please give me a call, and I’ll talk you through what’s involved.

Getting Wet

I would like everyone who wants to be Christened to know that you are very welcome (Baptised and Christened are interchangeable words). Christenings can take place at any of the churches in the group, usually during our regular Sunday services (9am, 11am and 6pm). If you would rather use one of the local rivers, then I’m happy to get wet with you! And it’s never too late for a child to be baptised. The last two girls who I baptised were 5 years old, so the trickiest part was making sure I could pick them up to get them to the font! For adults, I wouldn’t usually pick you up - but we could use the river if you would rather be outside. Young and old - all are welcome.

Planning for what’s next

It would be an honour for me to help with Funeral and Memorial services. We don’t often get much notice of these important events. However, I would be happy to talk to you or a group about preparing for funerals and understanding what the Church and I can offer. Some people find that talking about death and making their wishes known to their Priest or family can help set us free to enjoy every moment of life on earth. I am happy to visit anyone in need, especially if we’ve not met before. I’m pleased to give thanks for all the exciting and pray for the sad things that affect us all.

Fr Aran *insert a question of your choice here. ** The answer usually is, “Yes!” - in all three cases.
