Easter Volunteers

St. Eugene Church is a beautiful place to worship. I want to thank all our volunteers who work hard to

make our parish so vibrant. Our church always looks wonderful, but, it really radiates beauty around the

Easter and Christmas seasons.

Our St. Eugene Art and Environment Committee does an excellent job making God’s House a

wonderful place to worship. I am very thankful to all our volunteers for their generosity of time and talent.

What a blessing it is for me to know that the church is well taken care of by dedicated parishioners. The art

and environment team work behind the scenes and often do not get the credit or recognition they deserve.

However, I know that many people are grateful for their hard work because I hear the comments made by

parishioners.

It takes time to make the church look so nice. The flowers are arranged in a particular way with a

design in mind. The art and environment team are authorized by me for the aesthetic beauty of our church. It

is problematic when people not on the team rearrange the flowers or move the statues. Also, we often get

parishioners who want to bring extra flowers to church and place them where they like. I would ask people to

please refrain from adding or rearranging flowers in the church. If you desire to have input on the decorations,

I would invite parishioners to consider joining the art and environment team. In fact, if you are strong and able

to lift heavier items, please consider donating some of your time to help the team. We need more volunteers.

As you enjoy the beauty of our church, please remember that it is parishioners just like you who are

responsible. Have a Blessed Easter Season!

In Christ,

SEEKING Easter Sunday is a day all about seeking. The early Christian communities gathered around the Apostles, seeking more about the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus. Saint Paul told the baptized Colossians to “seek what is above.” Mary of Magdala went to the tomb, seeking to find the Lord’s body so that she could anoint it. We come to church on Easter Sunday seeking many things. For some of us, this is a once-a-year journey, when we seek connection with the foundations of the Christian faith. For others, this day is the culmination of a long journey of Lenten repentance. For the newly baptized, this is the first day of a new life filled with promise and expectation. Whatever it is that we seek, let us be inspired by the disciple whom Jesus loved who, when he saw the wrappings of cloth inside the empty tomb, “saw and believed.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Prayer with Scripture We invite you to an encounter of prayer where you can stop from the hurry of the moment and listen to God through God’s Word, in silence, meditation, ad-oration and contemplation. In this short but intense time, we listen to a talk that introduces us into the understanding of the Word of God, which later, we reflect on and meditate in an attitude of faith, discov-ering what God is trying to reveal to us. The prayer is accompanied by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with songs to help the faithful enter more into prayer.

"SUPER ALUMNI DAYS XXIII" For the 24th consecutive year the tradition continued, as we enjoyed another super weekend. The athletic portion of the festivities consisted of 206 alumni, 27 seventh & eighth graders, and many present and former coaches competing in twelve basketball games and eight volleyball matches at the Shaunessy Cen-ter. On Friday night, the Alumni Bash was held at the Curragh Irish Pub in Edison Park. Everybody had a good time and enjoyed the atmosphere in the beautiful private room where it took place. On Sunday morning the Alumni Mass was celebrated by Father George. At the conclusion of the Mass our distinguished guest speaker, Nicole Fontanetta (2007), shared an outstanding presentation with the congregation. Finally, Kait-lynn Dziadosz (‘11) and Danny Moore (‘11) received the 2015 Alumni Scholarships. Once again, I congratu-late them for their outstanding achievements! My most sincere gratitude is extended to our Athletic Director, Ms. Patty Samborski, for her personal assistance and coordinating another outstanding hospitality table. Many thanks to all of the volunteers that donated their time, helping at the games and the Mass and to everybody that competed or participated in any segment or aspect of the festivities. I extend my sincerest heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Kim Guercio and Mr. John McCabe for providing us with hundreds of beautiful photographs that greatly enhanced the week-end. Their many years of dedication and professionalism have placed an indelible stamp on the lives of hun-dreds of people. I would like to thank the following people for their generous contributions to St. Eugene School: Ed Schillinger, Thomas Jaconetty, Matt Kusek, Matt Fontana, Robert & Kim Dziadosz, Kevin Kubica, Jr., Marty Brennan, Vic Guerrieri, Vincent Dorsey, Joe Natale, Ron Leyba, Kenneth Hoffmann, Peggy Kerber, Nicholas Kuta, Jon Manko, Barbara Jarecki, Eric Hennessey, Charles & Victoria Dressner, Eric Gubatan, Jim & Michelle Ehrhard, Nikki Mikulski, Frank Perna, Nancy Guida, Mary Chierici, Mike Fedoruk, Susan Gussy, Filomena Maione Kulesza, Brian & Diane Pagani, Kelly Schoenbeck, Dan Blonski, Katie Godziszewski Brown, Elizabeth Albert, Michael Partipilo, and Tony Donato Once again, Alumni Weekend provided hundreds of people with an opportunity to have fun, renew friendships, catch up on current events and relive ‘the good old days.’ Your support of this beautiful tradition for 24 years continues to create a multitude of memories and treasured moments in time! We ask all of our parishioners, if you have a loved one serving in the military,

to please contact the rectory office to give us the name of the soldier, so the

whole parish can pray for your loved one. A book in the church vestibule is

available for inscribing the names of all military personnel. This book will be part of the offertory

procession from now until the war is over.

A PRAYER LORD, HOLD OUR TROOPS IN YOUR LOVING HANDS. PROTECT THEM AS THEY PROTECT US. BLESS THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR THE SELFLESS ACTS THEY PERFORM FOR US IN OUR TIME OF NEED. WE ASK THIS IN THE NAME OF JESUS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR. AMEN

We pray for our loved ones

who are serving in any branch of the Armed Forces during this time of conflict.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission as Catholics united in faith at St. Eugene Parish is to help bring God to people and people to

God. Through evangelization, education and being of service to each other, we strive to make our parish

community a holistic community in body, mind and spirit. It is our goal to develop, support, encourage and

empower one another in our parish ministries, so that each person can reach their human and Christian po-

tential. We are enthused about the future of St. Eugene and the whole Catholic Church and we pledge our

participation in that future. We seek dialogue and open communication with all parishioners in fulfilling the

needs of our parish. While recognizing the cultural diversities in our community, we will strive to bring all peo-

ple together in Christ under a common bond of faith, hope and love.
