The Year of Mercy ends. The year of mercy now begins. The Year of Mercy decreed by Pope Francis comes to a close this weekend with the Solemnity of Christ the King. But the mercy of God we experienced this past year calls us and empowers us to be his mercy today. Peter Maurin, the friend and guide of Dorothy Day, wrote what he called “easy essays.” The following essay based on Matthew 25 he entitled Feeding the Poor. In the first centuries Of Christianity The hungry were fed At a personal sacrifice, The naked were clothed At a personal sacrifice, The homeless were sheltered At a personal sacrifice, The pagans used to say About the Christians “See how they love each other.” In our own day the poor are no longer fed, clothed and sheltered At a personal sacrifice But at the expense Of the taxpayers. And because the poor Are no longer Fed, clothed and sheltered At a personal sacrifice The pagans say about the Christians “See how they pass the buck.” The Year of Mercy ends. PCCW Annual Christmas Bazaar A special thank you to all the volunteers who made last weekend’s bazaar a success. It takes many people to pull this event together, from those who donate items, set up and take down, work at a booth, baked items and those who attended. Eucharist means Thanksgiving Every Sunday at Mass we give thanks for the family we have in Jesus Christ and for the love and forgiveness Christ manifests. At this celebration there is a meal, but there is no turkey or mashed potatoes. Rather, when we gather around Christ's table for Eucharist, we are invited to receive the real presence of Jesus Christ, to take and eat his body and blood in remembrance of his love and sacrifice. Through the bread and wine we are spiritually fed. We gather each week because this is what families do. It is with this family, called together by Christ, that we are able to fully celebrate and remember Christ's sacrifice for us in the Eucharist, the most important meal of all. 5 simple ways to be generous Teaching children simple, concrete ways to be generous fosters growth of this virtue in every day life. During this season of Thanksgiving promoting generosity encourages gratitude in our children. 1.Give each child a dollar and let them give it to the person of their choice. 2.Write a note to the first person that crosses your mind, telling them you were thinking of them. 3. When grocery shopping, buy an extra item of a family favorite to give away. 4.Take your neighbor's trash can back from the curb. 5. Pay for the next person in line. Anyone wishing to make a report of an allegation of sexual abuse should send that report to Bishop William P. Callahan at the Diocese of La Crosse, P.O. Box 4004, La Crosse, WI 54602-4004. The form is available through the Diocese of La Crosse, Office for Clergy; or on the diocesan website at: www.dioceseoflacrosse.com. MASS INTENTIONS

It is the custom of the Catholic Church that priests remember specific intentions at the celebration of the Eucharist. Normally, a small offering or stipend (customarily $10 in the Diocese of La Crosse) is given for a Mass intention. Anyone can request a particular intention for which a Mass can be offered. Mass cards, to be given to the family of a deceased person for whom a Mass is to be offered or to be given to the living person for whose intentions a Mass is to be offered, are available when requesting a Mass intention. If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for some-one, we have openings for intentions throughout 2017 Please contact Sandy in the Parish Office (526-4424).

Help assist Rotary Lights in its mission of collecting non-perishable food items to help feed the hungry in the greater La Crosse area. Please bring your family (and your non-perishable food items) to the Rotary Lights display in Riverside Park. It is a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy an evening together. The SEAS Holmen Food Pantry is the recipient of the donated food items on the following evenings:

Project Linus is a volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission: 1. Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or other-wise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets, created by volunteer “blanketeers”. 2. Provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for groups in our communities for the benefit of children. You are invited to join us on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 at 9am. No sewing experience needed. Please bring a rotary cutter with a mat or a scissor. We will provide the flannel and fleece. Please call Linda at 534-5162 with any questions.
