St. David’s Welsh Heritage Society FEBRUARY 2020 welshsocietyofthesuncoast.org Nancy Mellican, editor EVERYONE INVITED CROESO Regular meetings of the St. Davids Welsh Socie- ty of the Suncoast are now held at noon on the third Tuesday of the month from October to April at St. Dunstans Anglican Church. A pot- luck luncheon and program entertain all persons with an interest in celebrating Welsh heritage. We have great fun so bring a friend to socialize. (They do not even have to be Welsh to be wel- come.) This will be the 76th year of the existence of the St. Davids Welsh Society of the Suncoast. Not many can equal that record. Don't forget the next meeting on February 18. Our own Susan Biel will present a program on "Gems and Minerals Around the World". Susan is a gemologist who has graciously agreed to share her expertise. We look forward to seeing every- one there. Remember that March brings St. Davids Day. The banquet this year will be on his actual day— March 1st and is our only meeting this month. The committee reminds you to send in your res- ervation form {found in this newsletter) as soon as possible. The committee guarantees a lovely evening with musical entertainments to please everyone. HOW ARE YOU? According to our records, the following members have not paid their dues this year.. We hope this is an oversight. Know that we miss you and hope you are doing well. According to Wikipedia, Welsh rabbit (original spelling) or Welsh rarebit (spelling based on folk etymology) is a traditional Welsh dish made with a savoury sauce of melted cheese and various other ingredients and served hot, after being poured over slices (or other pieces) of toasted bread or served in a chafing dish like a fondue. More often described with suffixes or choice of extras on menus, variants have been named English rabbit, Scotch rabbit, buck rab- bit, golden buck, blushing bunny and in some parts of France it is known as le/un Welsh. The names of the dish originate from 18th-century Britain but the dish contains no rabbit meat. TRIVIA QUESTION: Where is Walesoldest royal tombstone lo- cated and who is buried there?
