Differences Between the

Forward with Faith Campaign and the AAA

The Forward with Faith Campaign is a one-time fundraising initiative

that will address long-term and extraordinary needs, while the

Archbishop’s Annual Appeal provides the day-to-day operational

income necessary to support the many ministries and good works of the

Archdiocese for the current fiscal year. There are several vital ministries

and services, for instance, that the AAA supports that are separate from

the campaign, including seminarian education, diaconate formation,

retired clergy, tuition assistance, communications, and over 250 local

charities.

The Forward with Faith Campaign is conducted by the Hartford

Bishops’ Foundation as a one-time fundraising initiative with the

purpose of creating long-term funds from which grants can be made

over time for projects, entities, and services that are essential to church

life and above and beyond those addressed by the AAA. Some of these

extraordinary needs include:

Capital grants to support facility upgrades, new staff, and enhanced

programs for Catholic Charities’ sites across the Archdiocese;

Technology upgrades, capital grants, and STREAM programming

for our Catholic schools;

Financial support for Catholic school teachers and administrators,

including tuition remission for their children to improve

retention rates; and,

New education and professional development training programs for

our school and parish leaders.

In summary, these funds will empower our Church to stand prepared to

serve future generations of Catholics. To do this requires an

extraordinary campaign that each member of the Archdiocese of

Hartford is asked to support above their annual giving to both the parish

offertory and the annual appeal.

The Sheelan Families

Altar flowers for St. Joseph Church have been joyfully offered

as a Celebration of the 39th Wedding Anniversary for George &

Marie Dixon.

As a parish family, we congratulate George and Marie and wish

them many more years of wedded bliss. May the Lord continue

to bless this union and remain with them in their life’s journey

together.

Please remember all are invited to wr ite the

names of your deceased loved ones in our Parish

Book of Remembrance found in the sanctuary.

In Honoring the Memory of

Rev. Robert Russo

“No eye has seen, nor ear has heard,

nor heart conceived, what the Lord has

prepared for those who love Him.”

1 Corinthians 2:9

May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the

mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Last Sunday, the Lord called our dear Father Russo into His

heavenly kingdom. Father Russo has been an integral part of

our community for so many years. We will feel this loss for a

long while. Father brought an enthusiasm and zest for life that

was infectious. He loved his priesthood and shared his faith

with countless individuals throughout his 57 years as a priest.

Well done, good and faithful servant. May Father Russo rest in

eternal peace!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Rev. John P. Melnick

With flu season rapidly approaching & the danger it

presents to the elderly & those with weakened

immune systems, St. Damien of Molokai Parish will

be suspending the reception of the sacred blood of

Christ at Communion, starting November 1, 2018

continuing through Holy Week 2019.

Starting Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, we will resume the

practice of receiving both species at Weekday Masses, Sunday,

10AM Mass at St. Joseph Church and we will begin the practice

at the Saturday, 4PM Mass at St. Gabriel Church.

chocolate, hearty soups, baked beans, hot and cold cereal,

and juice for our next collection. Thank you for your

consideration.

Social Action is looking for three to four

volunteers that would be willing to pick up

drives at each church hall and drive the donations to the Windsor

Food Bank. Typically the food is picked up the third Monday of

each month. If you are able to assist, please contact Lisa

Andersen.

Come start your holiday shopping with us! Social Action is

sponsoring a bus trip to Wrentham Outlets on November 10. The

cost of the trip is $38, and the profit from the trip will be donated

morning and afternoon snacks, and a coupon book. If you are

interested in attending, flyers with sign-up information are

available at the entrances to the church. You can also call Ann

that is used to send meeting agendas and

minutes, notifications about events, and

volunteer opportunities. Typically less than three emails are sent

monthly. If you would like to be added to our distribution list,

please email Lisa Andersen or Sue Claughsey. It’s a great way

to stay informed about the Social Action Committee. No

commitment to volunteer is required, and new members are

always welcome!

The next Social Action meeting is Monday, November 12, at 6PM

in St. Joseph Church Fr. Doherty Hall.
