Welcome to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, an open and affirming congregation in the
worldwide Anglican Communion.
You are welcome here . . .
if you are married or single, for
we will partner with you;
if you are a parent or a child of
one, for we are all family together;
if you know what you believe or
have no idea what you believe,
for we are one in our longing for
deeper knowledge of God;
if you are from this place or a
stranger from far away, for we
were all once strangers ourselves;
if you are straight or gay, black
or white, rich or poor . . .
No matter who you are, we welcome you, praying that you will
find here what you seek. In fact, we pray that you will find here
the love that is Christ’s law – love that bears all things, believes
all things, hopes all things, endures all things – knowing that
God’s love is bigger than anything we can ask or imagine.
All people – adults and children – who are seeking
deeper relationship with Christ are invited to receive
Holy Communion and to share freely with us
in all aspects of our worship.

Presider Let us pray.
4
All O God, who chose the blessed virgin Mary to be
the mother of your only Son; grant that we who
have been redeemed by his blood, may share
with her the glory of your eternal kingdom;
through the same Jesus Christ our Lord who is
alive with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now
and for ever. Amen.
First Reading: Isaiah 61:10-11
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in
my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a
bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns
herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the
Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up
before all the nations.
Reader The Word of the Lord.
People Thanks be to God
Psalm 34:1-9
1
I will bless the LORD at all times; *
his praise shall ever be in my mouth.
2
I will glory in the LORD; *
let the humble hear and rejoice.
3
Proclaim with me the greatness of the LORD; *
let us exalt his Name together.
4
I sought the LORD, and he answered me *
and delivered me out of all my terror.
5
Look upon him and be radiant, *
and let not your faces be ashamed.
6
I called in my affliction and the LORD heard me *
and saved me from all my troubles.
7
The angel of the LORD encompasses those who fear him, *
and he will deliver them.
5
8
Taste and see that the LORD is good; *
happy are they who trust in him!
9
Fear the LORD, you that are his saints, *
for those who fear him lack nothing.
All stand as able and sing the following, turning to face the
Gospel Book for the reading of the Gospel.
Sequence Hymn #232 Nyland
‘By all your saints still striving’
Please insert the Verse 2 below for the second stanza.
Verse 2
We sing with joy of Mary whose heart with awe was stirred
when, youthful and unready, she heard the angel’s word;
yet she her voice upraises, God’s glory to proclaim,
as once for our salvation your mother she became.

The Gospel Reading: Luke 1:46-55
Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in
God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of
his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me
blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and
holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from
generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he
has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has
brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the
lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich
away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of
his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to
Abraham and to his descendants forever."
Reader The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Sermon The People sit. The Very Rev. Paris Coffey
All stand as able to affirm together the truths of the Christian faith.
Affirmation of Faith from A New Zealand Prayer Book
You, O God, are supreme and holy,
You create our world and give us life.
Your purpose overarches everything we do.
You have always been with us. You are God.
You, O God, are infinitely generous,
good beyond all measure.
You came to us before we came to you.
You have revealed and proved your love for us
in Jesus Christ, who lived and died and rose again.
You are with us now. You are God.
You, O God, are Holy Spirit.
You empower us to be your gospel in the world.
You reconcile and heal; you overcome death.
You are our God. We worship you.

Presider Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Presider Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Presider
All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our
true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word,
the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You
laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the sea when it
burst out from the womb; You brought forth all creatures of the
9
earth and gave breath to humankind. Wondrous are you, Holy
One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey;
And so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the
heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy:
Holy, Holy, Holy ‘Mass for Soulful People’ Grayson Warren Brown
Hymn #255: Lift Every Voice and Sing; used with permission Church Publishing
The Presider continues,
Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never
been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the
nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land
of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share
our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself
for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,
you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us
to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us.
10
We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took
bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave
it to his friends and said:“Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for
you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave
it to his friends and said: “Drink this, all of you: this cup is the
new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for
the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the
tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming
in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed
and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ:
Presider and People
Dying, you destroyed our death.
Rising, you restored our life.
Christ Jesus, come in glory!
The Presider continues
Send your Holy Spirit upon us
and upon these gifts of bread and wine
that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ.
Presider and People
Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be
a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us
together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time
gather us with all your people into the joy of our true
eternal home.
Presider Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ,
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit
we worship you our God and Creator
in voices of unending praise.
All Blessed are you now and for ever. AMEN.
Presider
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
Presider and People
Our Father, who art in heaven, / hallowed be thy Name, thy
kingdom come, / thy will be done, / on earth as it is in
heaven. / Give us this day our daily bread. / And forgive us
our trespasses, / as we forgive those/who trespass against
us. /And lead us not into temptation, / but deliver us from
11
evil. / For thine is the kingdom, / and the power, and the
glory, / forever and ever. Amen.
Breaking of the Bread
Bread is broken and after a moment of silent prayer the Presider says,
Presider We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ.
People We who are many are one body,
for we all share in the one bread.
