IT HAS BEEN A DIFFICULT WEEK

T he image above, a mural of George Floyd, captures the mood of many nations at this time. Clearly this man’s death was undeserved and unnecessary. He, like all of us, may or may not have made mistakes in life but he did not deserve to die. Since then there has been much by way of protest and hopefully this may raise awareness in all of us, of the senselessness of racist views. Alongside this, there has also been

looting and people taking advantage. Clearly this too is totally wrong. We are called to be on the side of right and on that side alone and always. Any other place, any other action, any other decision puts us on the wrong side.

REMEMBERING TEACHERS AND PUPILS

A word of thanks to the teachers in our three schools who have kept contact with pupils and families since the closing of the schools back in March. It has been a difficult time for all involved but all that has been done

helped greatly. Remembering the boys and girls of sixth classes in our three schools, we will try to find a way to appropriately mark your journey in school and to wish you well for what lies ahead. We will come back to this in the next week or two but, for now, please know that you are all remembered and wished well.

PLEASE CALL IF NEED BE During this time, please know that you are welcome to contact me if there is anything I can help with. The contact details on the back of this bulletin are there for you, as am I. Have no hesitation in getting in touch. We are in this together.

THANK YOU I wish to acknowledge a private donation of €1000.00 received during the week. This will go towards the overall cost of the fixed installation and continued service of our Parish Webcam.

PREPARING FOR JULY We continue to look forward to the re-opening of our Churches for public Masses etc. During the days to come, I hope to meet with our Parish Pastoral Council to look at how we might best approach this time. We are still awaiting the final document from the Irish bishops, who are being guided by experts and health officials. As best we can, we will keep you informed. Please pray that all will go well.

WEEKLY PARISH BULLETIN

I n recent months, we have not been printing as many copies of the Weekly Bulletin but copies are printed each week and are available for collection in the four churches. Also some copies are being distributed through the parish by Kilmovee and Kilkelly

Community groups. The bulletin is published each week on our parish website and on Facebook Page. Please help to share the message.

G ood to laugh!! Like most of you, I receive messages that are forwarded. Some I like a lot and click forward on as well. Others, not so much! I liked this one. It always amazes me how people can spot a moment, even in the midst of difficult times, to

share a sense of humour. When humour makes you laugh out loud, it’s doing its job. I don’t think it should ever be used to make little of another or to highlight someone’s weakness or ability level but when it is genuinely well intentioned, focused and connects with where we are right now, bring it on! We must never become so serious that we cannot laugh at ourselves and encourage others to see the funny side of life too. So, go for it, share joy with as many people as you possibly can this week.

REACHING OUT IN FAITH

H ave you any thoughts around how we might use the Parish Webcam at this time to keep in contact and in prayer? Thankfully very many of you are joining for weekend Masses and

Masses during the week (on average about 2000 views of Mass every Sunday and 400 daily viewers) but there may be other opportunities for prayer. If you have any suggestion, please drop an email to [email protected] or call. It would be good to make as much use of this service as possible.

FIRST FRIDAY VISITATION

S adly, I have not been able to visit those on the First Friday list in recent months but hopefully, if progress continues, might get back to that in July. If there is any need for me to call before then, please do not hesitate to get in contact. In the meantime, might try

to catch up with people over the phone. Thank you for your understanding and, please God, we will get back to some sort of normality soon.

AD MULTOS ANNOS …..

C ongratulations and best wishes to Aughadeffin native, Dominic Towey, who last weekend celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his Ordination

to the Priesthood. On Pentecost Sunday, 31st May 1970, Dominic was ordained in St Peter’s Cathedral, Wexford. Since then he has served in the Diocese of Motherwell where his work is highly regarded and his ministry very much appreciated. Dominic is a regular visitor home and we are always happy to see him. Please God, we will get the chance to welcome him home before long. Speaking to him recently, he told me that he had said he wanted no fuss for his Jubilee and that the Lord closed down everything to answer his prayer!! I think he

needs to be careful what he prays for! “Ad multos annos”.
