ROY HILL COMMUNNITY FOUNDATION INDIGENOUS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP FORM

Roy Hill Foundation offers scholarships to Indigenous students from St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School. There are two types of scholarships on offer: 1. Full Scholarship – If no Land Group contributes to the educational expenses. 2. Part Scholarship – If your Land Group contributes to the educational cost, but the amount is not enough to

cover the expenses above. Only a limited number of scholarships are available each year subject to funding availability and require a formal application. Scholarships usually commence at the beginning of the school year; however, in exceptional circumstances and subject to funding may be able to be provided partway through the school year. Who is eligible to receive a scholarship? Roy Hill Foundation Scholarships are for students of all abilities - as long as they are doing their best and attending school regularly. Applicants for scholarships must: • Complete a scholarship application form • Attend St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School • Preference is given to students of the traditional owners and founding families of the school (Clarke, Dann,

Kelly, Murphy and Pianta) and local language groups (Kariyarra, Ngarla, Nyamlu, Nyiyaparli and Palyku) of the Pilbara region

• Then other Aboriginal language groups • Not be receiving any other scholarship In addition: • The family must be supportive of the student’s education • The student must demonstrate a commitment to education by attending school for a minimum of 90% of the

time. (Consideration will be made for family issues). If attendance falls below this, without a valid explanation, then a meeting will be called to discuss the concern. Failure to rectify the issue could result in the scholarship being revoked.

Who funds our scholarships? Each scholarship is paid for by the Roy Hill Community Foundation (the Sponsor). At the start of each year, the Sponsor is sent a profile, completed by their student so that they can learn a little about the student. (No information that can identify the student will be sent). Another questionnaire will be completed by the student at the end of the year. This will describe their experience at school and plans for the future. To protect student’s privacy, this is managed by St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School. The sponsor will only know the student’s first name or their school code/ID.

How to apply Families need to contact the Principal at St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School directly to enquire about scholarship opportunities and to request the Scholarship Application Form. Families are encouraged to make enquiries well in advance of the anticipated commencement of their child in school. Families are also encouraged to apply during the school year, however, no guarantees that scholarships will be available can be given. The Scholarship Application Form is an essential part of the application process and should be submitted directly to the school. Attach a copy of the student’s birth certificate and school reports if not already a student of St Cecilia’s. Period of Scholarship Subject to continued funding from Roy Hill Foundation How Much is The Scholarship and How Does it Work? The Scholarship amount varies in each year group as is illustrated below. The Full Scholarship pays for: • Application fees • Tuition fees • Amenities Fee • Building Levy • IT Levy • Personal Accident insurance • Stationery and text books (with a maximum amount set for each year) • Provision for one set of formal school uniform and sports uniform plus a hat • A bag and jacket is supplied on enrolment and replaced only if required The Part Scholarship pays for half: • Application fees • Tuition fees • Amenities Fee • Building Levy • IT Levy • Personal Accident insurance • Provision for one set of formal school uniform and sports uniform plus a hat • A bag and jacket is supplied on enrolment and replaced only if required

* Cost of stationery and text books to be covered by land group. All items are paid from the scholarship fund directly to St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School. No funds are provided directly to families. Unused portions of the scholarship funding are not able to be paid out or rolled across school years and remain within the scholarship fund. Parents/Carers are responsible for all other expenses incurred as part of their children’s education over and above the scholarship amount. Questions?
