STEWARDSHIP Mike Kaiser,

[email protected] Jesus told them another par-

able: “The kingdom of God is like…. “ Matthew 13:24

Jesus used many examples of what the kingdom of God

is like. Central to all of them is justice, kind-

ness, an evaluation of what is really important,

love and concern.

HOLY FATHER’S INTENTIONS FOR JULY:

Lapsed Christians: That our brothers and

sisters who have strayed from the faith,

through our prayer and witness to the Gospel,

may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord

and the beauty of the Christian life.

Youth Group: Registration will be held

Sunday, August 6, 2017 after mass. All 9th

- 12th grades students are invited. We meet

the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month after

mass. If you have any questions please call

John or Estella Pekarske at 706-387-7596.

Curillistas: On August 27, 2017 there will

be an Ultraya luncheon after the 11am

mass in the pavilion. Anyone who has EVER

attended a Cursillo weekend or anyone

wishing to know more about the Cursillo

program are invited to attend (families

included). Contact Steve Matthews or Mike

Kaiser for more details.

GOOD NEWS: Like the parable of the Sower and

the seeds in Matthew 13:1-9, Jesus told a

story that shocked his audience. On the

surface, the farmer in the story had a

dubious logic. In a culture where farm land

passed from generation to generation (along

with family allies and family enemies),

farmers diligently protected their lands

for two reasons. The wanted to maximize

harvest yields and insure a reputation as

good farmers. The lax attitude of the farmer

in the face of an enemy's attack certainly

raised questions in the minds of Jesus'

listeners.

But the farmer wisely chose to allow the

wheat to fully mature. Anyone who actively

pulled the weeds might trample or uproot the

wheat. In the end, the farmer had maximized

his harvest. And, he gained a bonus. The

bundled weeds would provide fuel for fire.

How has God delayed in answering your

prayers? How have you suffered from a

delayed answer? How has his delay helped

you?

Jesuit Father Gregory J. Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, CA and the author of the 2010 New York Times bestseller, Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion, and he is the subject of a 2012 documentary, G-Dog. From 1986-92, he served as pastor of Dolores Mission Church which was at the time the poorest Catholic parish in LA. Fr. Boyle and par-ish and community members created an alternative school/day care program for the gang-involved youth. In 1988 he created Jobs for Future in 2001 which has since become the independent nonprofit organization, Home-boy Industries. Today, Homeboy Industries employs and trains former gang members in a range of social enter-prises and provides critical social services to over 10,000 people annually. Suggested Donation: $10.
