Transcript of St. Bruno/St. Raymond Newsletter April 2018
Dear Heavenly Father, As we celebrate the joyous resurrection of your only Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, we praise you and thank you. We thank you for the awesome gift of your Son who gave so freely and lovingly to ensure our hope of salvation. We praise you for this bright light in our oftentimes dark world. We thank you for the gift of forgiveness and for sending your beloved Son to be our pathway into life everlasting. We praise you for the unconditional love you give us every day – especially on those days when we fall and stumble. We thank you for always being there to pick us up, drag us or carry us along the path-way to you and toward eternal life. We thank you for the gift of your grace – the gift of our faith. Without it we know we would be lost. We praise you for the gift of our seven sacraments where we most deeply feel your grace and amazing love for us. Help us to always fully experience the depth of your love every time we celebrate each beautiful sacrament you’ve given us. We thank you for each moment you give us here on earth and pray we use these pre-cious moments to draw closer to you; to do your will. With this bright new day as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, let it be also a resurrection
for us - a new beginning to our own life in Christ. We pray in the name of your beloved Son, our Saviour Je-sus Christ.
Amen.

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
The joy of the Resurrection and our baptismal promises, made or renewed during Easter, shape every moment of our future in this life and in our next. Let us keep the joy of Easter in our hearts and in our spirits throughout the Easter season. As we start the month of April, hard as it is to believe, we are working our way to year’s end, and look to your continued support in assist-
ing us in helping your child achieve a strong finish to
her/his school year.
To this end we ask that you please review the following
with your children:
1) Being responsible, meaning always properly prepared for class – homework completed to teacher expectations; pens, pencils, agendas, etc., at school – nothing
forgotten.
2) Being a true Christian – “The Golden Rule” – Treat others the way you want to be treated; such a simple rule, but so diffi-
cult to follow at times.
3) Being polite and well-
mannered.
4) Being a good role mod-
el for all.
5) Showing day in and day out why we have a sepa-rate Catholic system; we are a system with a dif-

Together With One Voice: TCDSB Pastoral Plan 2015-2018 The Toronto Catholic Dis-trict School has launched a new three-year pastoral plan running from Septem-ber 2015 through to August 2018. This year is the culmination of our three-year pastoral plan focusing on Family, Parish and School--Together
With One Voice.
Catholic education is built on the partnership among our families, parishes and schools, and therefore, to-gether we are truly a strong foundation of our school
communities. This year, Spotlight on Your School 2017-2018, is The
Year of the School. A year to celebrate our Cath-olic Schools, and the shared commitment of our Families, Parishes and Schools to Catholic education.
Safety Reminders
With the advent of more temperate weather, our students are reminded that skateboards, ripstik, and/or scooters are to be picked up once they enter school grounds. Also, in order to keep our students safe, use of soft “foam” balls are strongly encouraged during recess play.

The Great Canadian Cardboard Car Race
Students, start your en-gines...Ready, Set, Go!!! On April 4, 2018, now in its second year, St. Bruno/St. Raymond will host the Card-board Car Races. The com-petition is designed for stu-dents in grades seven and eight and tests their engi-neering skills in a action packed, fun-filled learning
experience. Working in teams of four, students must build a full size cardboard car that they
are able to ride in. This task tests student’s engineering skills in the field of structural strength and stability, as well as their measurement skills, as they use their artistic crea-tivity to build their cars. Teams will submit plans, lay-out their designs and build their cars in only two and one half hours. Students will be given only two sheets of cardboard and two rolls of tape to construct a chassis that will sit on two fixed axles, roll down a ramp and across the Gym. In the afternoon, students from each team will
ride the car down a ramp and onto a marked course in front of cheering fans. The compe-tition is scored on several factors including: weight held (the car must support the weight of one or more stu-dents), measurement of wheel base (length of car is important), distance traveled and quality of construction are also key factors. Special thanks to Mr. Feraday for enthusiastically organizing this event for many years, and to all the judges, staff, volun-teers and special guests at-
tending.

Living the Promise Student Mass for Catholic Edu-cation Week, 10 a.m. followed
by the peace walk, CEC Mass to be webcast live at
From the discussions that emerged from this summit, the Ontario Bishops produced a new statement on Ontario Catholic education, “Renewing the Promise.” Catholic Educa-tion Week 2018 combines the themes of reconciliation, soli-darity, love, justice and ecolo-gy. The sub-themes for Catho-lic Education Week 2018 are
as follows:

Proclaiming the Promise Together in Hope.
Our school will celebrate Cath-olic Education Week with the above themes as a focus. Eve-ry year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) provides our schools with a resource kit to help pre-pare for our Catholic Education Week. Using these resources, we will continue to serve and
move forward together.
year’s Catholic Education Week theme is, “Renewing the Promise.” The theme for CEW 2018, Renewing the Promise, draws upon previous docu-ments on Ontario Catholic education, namely, “This Moment of Promise” (1989), “Fulfilling the Prom-ise” (1993) and “Our Catho-lic Schools” (2006-2007). These three documents, while several years apart from each other, all speak of
the unique mission of Ontar-io Catholic education, the importance of its shared leadership by all those in-volved in Catholic education and the critical role of Catho-lic education in contempo-rary society. For 2017-2018, these issues are further ex-plored via an electronic sur-vey that was organized by the Institute for Catholic Ed-ucation (ICE) that led to a gathering of the Catholic
community in Fall of 2017.
Catholic Education Week: May 7 - May 11, 2018
As we approach Catholic Education Week, we are reminded that publicly-funded Catholic education is a call to service. Regardless of our position or our respon-sibilities within Catholic edu-cation, our role is a call, birthed in our baptism to bring the saving message of Jesus Christ into the lives of those students whom it is our privilege to serve. World Autism Aware-ness Day - April 2nd
Every April 2nd, is recognized as World Autism Awareness Day. This day aims to in-crease people's awareness about individuals, especially
children, with autism. On April 3rd, St. Bruno/St. Raymond will participate in the “Light it Up Blue” event, in honour of World Autism Awareness Day. Our staff and students are asked to wear a BRIGHT BLUE T-shirt or sweater to school to show their support for all our
friends with Autism here in our own school, and to con-tinue to be an inclusive and
accepting community. We are also excited to tell you about our “Light it up Blue” Dance-a-thon fundrais-er. This event will be taking place on Friday, April 27, 2018. Please find attached the Pledge Form. As you may know, many wonderful things are happening in the Intensive Support Programs at our school. These pro-grams include a Cooking Program, a Bowling League, a variety of experiential
learning opportunities and various life skills. These programs are an essential part of our students’ learning to compliment and enhance the curriculum, while meet-ing the potential and expec-tations set for all their indi-vidual needs. In order to continue these events, we are asking for a $5 donation. We remind all students not to solicit or go door to door to collect monies. We hope that our parent community will continue to support us generously and help us in-
crease awareness for all.

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders, autism spectrum disorders, caused by a com-
bination of genes and environmental influences. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by social and be-havioral challenges, as well as, repetitive behaviors. Cur-rent statistics estimate that 1 in 88 children have been di-agnosed with autism spec-

April, with its cele-bration of Easter, has been assigned the virtue of JUSTICE. At this time we celebrate the Resur-rection of Jesus who is the Just One who died for the sake of the unjust, that He might lead peo-ple back to God. But justice is also an important part of Catholic teaching beyond Christ’s Death and Resurrec-tion. The need to do justice comes from the obligation to respect the dignity of
