Teach Kids to Protect Themselves at Home We consider our homes to be safe places for our children. But being home alone, especially during the summer months, can pose risks for children. Here are a few tips to teach kids that will help keep them safe when you are not with them at home: Never answer the door if alone. Do not invite anyone in the house without the permission of a parent or babysitter. Don’t tell anyone on the phone that your parents are not home. Instead tell them that your parents can’t come to the phone, and take a message. For more tips, please visit www.kidsafe.com.

For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

7 St. Brigid Church 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time 08-28-2011 From the Pastor’s Desk…. The Word of God- Discipleship is coming to knowing Jesus Christ, and just as we join him in the resurrection and the promise of salvation, Jesus reminds Peter and us that life is still threatened by sin. Because of sin, there are still struggles to overcome; personal, family, church, education, society and government. To be a witness we transform those struggles into acts of redemption in union with the Lord Jesus and we in turn are transformed into his witnesses of love and mercy in good times and bad times. Thus, if you wish to follow Him, take up your cross, deny yourself, open yourself to fully embrace both His cross and resurrection. The result is that we are changed into His image and the world is changed into His Kingdom of Love, Justice, Mercy and Peace. May God be great in us!

This Sunday we welcome our guests and visitors on this special weekend, especially Bishop Edward Clark DD, the Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles and our Regional Bishop for Our Lady of the Angels Region. Welcome Bishop Clark !!!

NEXT Saturday!!! September 3rd is the Birthday of the City of Los Angeles, and the Roman Catholic Church is celebrating at the Cathedral. See “This Week at St. Brigid” for full details. Happy Birthday Los Angeles! PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE TIME TO CONSIDER BEING A MEMBER OF THE PARISH COUNCIL. Inquiry Forms are available in this bulletin. Please turn them in.
