Jubilee of Mercy October 16, 2016 Though Jesus told today’s parable more than two thousand years ago, human nature hasn’t changed: we recognize both characters instantly. The merciless judge represents the corruption that has short-circuited justice throughout history; the distraught widow, society’s perennially power-less, marginalized to what Pope Francis calls the “peripheries” by those who wield power but lack the mer-cy that could transfigure society with compassion. To con-front such reality, Jesus bids us, “pray always without be-coming weary” (Luke 18:1). Prayer opens our eyes to see others from Jesus’ perspective, and leads us to work for justice by coming to the aid of others with what Pope Fran-cis extols as a higher standard, mercy. Thus, when Jesus asks, “Will not God secure the rights of [God’s] chosen ones? Will [God] be slow to answer?” (18:7). We respond by making God’s liberating work for others our own. October 16, 2016 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time “…be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient...” -- 2 Timothy 4:2 It is not always convenient to be a good steward, espe-cially when all the temptations of our busy and material-istic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God did-n’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to be faithful. Persistence Produces Perseverance BEETHOVEN is unsurpassed in his fidelity to his music. Hardly a bar of his was not written at least a dozen times. JOSEF HAYDN through much hardship, produced over 800 musical compositions, and at the age of 66 gave the world that matchless oratorio "The Creation". SCHUMANN-HEINK's parents were so poor they could not afford a good piano, but a dilapidated old one. For 20 years, she fought off poverty to become one of the world's greatest singers. MICHAELANGELO 's "Last Judgement", one of the twelve master paintings of the ages, was the product of 8 years'unremitting toil. Over 2,000 studies of it were found among his papers. Adult Question of the Week What is Natural Moral Law?

Answer: The natural moral law is the universal set of basic ethical norms every man and woman knows by virtue of reason. No rational person can be ignorant of it, nor can they claim igno-rance. It applies to everyone, it is written in our hearts. Every human person knows the basic fundamentals of Natural Law: murder, theft, lying, adultery and the like are intrinsically im-moral and evil. People still commit these sins, but no one can claim ignorance of knowing they are wrong.

Join Bishop Hartmayer on November 6th at 4pm for this Holy Hour of prayer at the Chapel of the Catholic Pastoral Center, 2170 East Victory Drive. Everyone is welcome to attend!

The Diocese of Savannah celebrates a 'White Mass' for those involved in healthcare. The Mass is associated with St. Luke, the patron of physicians and surgeons. His feast day is October 18th. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Gregory J. Hart-mayer, OFM Conv. at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savan-nah, Georgia. Please encourage all men and women, religious and Catholic laypersons, serving in the healthcare professions to attend this special Mass for recognition and blessings. There will be a reception after Mass in the parish hall.

Blessing of the Graves-Savannah The Annual All Souls Remembrance and Blessing of the Graves will take place at the Catholic Cemetery on Wheaton Street on Sunday, November 6th @ 3 pm. We will remember in prayer especially all the deceased from the Savannah area, as well as all the faithful departed.

Food Pantry This week our pantry served many families in Effingham county due to Hurricane Matthew. Many families lost all of their food, and as we know, can be very devastating to those who have little. The outreach office made yet an-other trip to Second Harvest in Savannah to get food re-lief supplies. 800lbs of food was picked up on Oct. 3 and another 800lbs was picked up on Oct. 13th. However, we were not able to get certain items for the pantry that are needed. Canned vegetables, peanut butter, canned soup, & pasta noodles are just a few items we need. We would appreciate any donations if you are able to help. Your generosity is so much appreciated and we are blessed to be able to help those in need.

The VIRTUS "Protecting God's Children for Adults" training will be held at St. Boniface Parish Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 2:30PM – 3:30PM Lunch will be provided This training is required for all volunteer and paid adults 18 and over who in the course of their ministry come into contact with minors: Choir, Ushers, EM’s, Altar Servers, Faith Formation, Youth Group, etc… It is also required for all employees of the diocese. Registration is required prior to attending via online at VIRTUS.org to receive credit for the session. No one under the age of 18 is allowed due to the sensitive sub-ject matter. Please arrive early no admittance once the session begins. Latecomers will be asked to reschedule. Catholic Focus There is a class for Adults of all ages that is held at 9:30 am in the Catholic Focus room in the Faith Formation Building. So please consider joining us. Third Annual Thanksgiving

Food Drive

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we give thanks to God for all we have. But there are families right here in Effingham County who struggle to put food on the table and may go without this Thanksgiving. We can make a difference—and teach our kids the joy and importance of sharing with the less fortunate—by encouraging them to participate in our Thanksgiving Food Drive. We need: stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, canned fruit, canned green beans, mac and cheese, canned milk, French-fried onions, cream of mushroom soup, turkey gravy, Jell-O, instant pudding and bags of sugar. Please bring your non-perishable, canned and boxed donations to Faith For-mation class from now until November 12. As always, thank you for supporting St. Boniface Faith Formation and our Thanksgiving Food Drive.

St. Boniface Baptism Class Sunday, October 30, 2016

St. Boniface’s final baptism class of 2016 will be held on Sunday, October 30, 12:30 – 3:00 PM. This class is intended for “soon to be” parents, first time parents, and parents of first child to be baptized in the Catholic faith. You must be registered in the parish and have contacted Father Martino prior to attending the class. Please contact Cindy Felipe, 596 – 4251, no lat-er than October 23, to register, obtain a workbook, and to answer any further questions. The next scheduled class will be in January 2017.

It's Time for a Spiritual Audit! In virtually every aspect of Life, -corporate, athletic, edu-cation etc., -there is a constant evaluation process to measure growth and improvement. Now it is a good time to assess our spiritual progress. Have we made a dif-ference? If God were totally our "faith in ac-tion" would He be pleased with what we have done (or failed to do)? Evils plague our society, such as abortion, pornography "comprehensive sex" education, tax funding of Planned Parenthood, and other anti-God, anti-life and anti-family issues. As Christians, we know that the Bible commands us to be active in serving God. Service is an action word, so we know that we cannot serve God by sitting on the side-lines, or being a "fence sitter". Are we as Catholics influ-encing our world, or is today's relativism and secularism influencing us much more? Are we setting an example to the next generation to pro-tect marriage and to defend life, from conception until natural death, or are we just "passively" pro-life? Do we speak up when in a position to defend innocent life? Do we hold our elected representatives accountable? Obviously, we cannot do it all, but we can certainly do something! Literally, thousands of lives are at stake each and every day. If we do nothing we collude with the pro-aborts, the purveyor of pornography and those that wish to remove God from society.
