January 8, 2017 Epiphany of Our Lord “Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” -Matthew 2:11 The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and opening their treasure chests for Him is an image that we should all try to follow all year long. In grati-tude for all that we have been given, we are called to generously share all of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God wants us to be the most gener-ous with that one thing that means the most to us. The Magi brought gifts and worshiped Jesus for who He was. This is the essence of true worship--honoring Christ for who He is and being willing to give Him what is valuable to you. Worship God because He is perfect, just, and almighty Creator of the universe, worthy of the best you have to give. Do you give Him the best you have--or does He get whatever is left-over? Give this some thought! (Adapted from LIFE APPLICATION BIBLE COMMENTARY, NIV).

¡Piensalo! (Adaptado de LIFE APPLICATION BIBLE COMMENTARY, NIV).

THE STAR OF BETHLEHEM The unfolding of the story of the In-carnation continues today as the Church celebrates the Epiphany. The tale of the magi from the East is one of the most fascinating in all of scrip-ture. It has much to teach us about what we can come to expect, even in circumstances and places that may seem insignificant or small. Bethle-hem was a tiny town, what we might

refer to today as a town without even one stop light. Yet it is over this seemingly insignificant place that the guiding star stops in its own search for the place where the Savior would be born. Too often we fail to recog-nize the fact that the star of Bethlehem comes to rest in our everyday lives, where we can experience God’s presence, manifested in ever new ways. Epiphany calls us to shake off our stupor and recognize the One who comes to save us. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
