Parish Mission Statement

St. Barbara Parish carries on the faith tradition established in 1894 by our Slovenian and German ancestors. Like our found-ers, we are called by Baptism to live as examples of Catholic faith and values, and as witnesses of Christ in the world. Our parish is small in size but great in heart. We are a diverse community who together seek to strengthen faith through liturgy and education, and through service to community in char-ity. We strive to love God with all our hearts and minds. We invite you to join us in celebration of God’s holy sacraments, to serve His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, and to

spread His Gospel, the Word of Jesus Christ.

Pray for the Sick

Pray for the sick of our parish, our family and friends, especially Nicholas Fratto, Michael Caro-lan, Karen Recrosio, Helen Jean Kolo, Margaret Vallelunga, Gloria Fortunato, Edna Koczaja, John Pulford, Mary Ann Chabala, Maria Klemencic, Mary Rosato, Ann Mary Mazzocco, Lois Rosati, Kathy D’Amico, Sophie Kramzer, Catherine Petrich, Kimberly Wakim, Maureen Wirant, and those in nursing homes and their caregivers; the return of inactive members of our parish to the practice of their faith; the respect of all human life and the end of abortions. We pray for the safety of our troops, their safe return and for their families at home.

Call the rectory office if you are homebound or in a nursing home and would like to receive Communion or if you are a patient in a hospital and would like a visit from a priest, please call 412.221.5152.

REJOICE AND BE GLAD “This is the day the Lord has made; let us re-joice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that these words of today’s responsorial psalm are not only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our parish. They are also sung by the poor in tiny barrios throughout Central and South America. They

are sung by those denied religious freedom in our wor ld ; these Christians lift

their voices in clandestine places of worship. These words are sung by people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism and war around the globe. Even in the midst of conflict and division, Christians still come together to declare that poverty, loneliness, violence, and division will never, ever have as much power as the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Indeed, let us rejoice this day and be glad! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Peter is an eyewitness: The Lord is risen (Acts 10:34a, 37-43). Psalm — This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad (Psalm 118). (1) Second Reading — All who are baptized, set your hearts in heaven (Colossians 3:1-4) or (2) Second Reading — Christ our Passover is sacri-ficed; therefore let us celebrate (1 Corinthians 5:6b-8). Gospel — Three witnesses, Mary, Peter, and John; each responds to the empty tomb (John 20:1-9) or Matthew 28:1-10 (or, at an afternoon or evening Mass, Luke 24:13-35). Helping Hands is interested in starting a new project called Com-fort Our Troops (C.O.T.). For this project we will need the names and unit addresses of men and women serving in our Armed Forc-es overseas. If you have a relative or friend serving, please email us at: [email protected] or call Pam Fantoni at 412-276-3266. More information will be provided soon. Let's comfort our troops that serve us every day by sending care packages and cards!

THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE, LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD! – Christ is risen! When all hope seemed to be lost through the suffering and death of Jesus, He rose from the dead and transformed the sorrow and grief of loss to the glory and joy of new life. On Mission for The Church Alive! will bring us new life as we discover how to serve God and others in new and more effective ways. Let’s not wait to reach out and grow the Church in Pittsburgh. Who can we share the joy and peace of the risen Lord with today as we are re-newed in hope? Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to stay involved.
