FOOD FOR THOUGHT AND PRAYER FROM BISHOP BRIAN
MASCORD’S 2018 LENTEN MESSAGE ‘In my family, my
parents were very practical about this time of the Church’s
calendar. Yes, there was the giving up, the penance of
Lent, but they saw this time as also being an opportunity
to take something up, a challenge, so to speak—perhaps
some radical form of kindness or deliberately going above
and beyond in service to each other in the family.’
VIDEO AND PHOTOS OF THE ORDINATION OF
BISHOP BRIAN MASCORD
The ordination of our new Bishop Brian Mascord was a
magnificent celebration last Thursday at the WIN Enter-
tainment Centre. It had all the ingredients of emotion,
prayerfulness, sacredness, reverence, sincerity and beau-
ty. The 28 who went on the Parish bus had a wonderful
time.
If you didn’t attend the ordination, or if you would like to
relive the experience, the video is available to watch
online at www.livestream.dow.org.au (the proceedings
commence 4min 35sec into the video).
There are also over 500 photos of the ordination taken by
the official photographers that can be viewed on Face-
book at www.facebookphotos.dow.org.au, or if you don’t
have Facebook you can view them at
www.photos.dow.org.au
As Members of St Anthony’s Parish, we share the responsibility of building up the spiritual and ma-terial welfare of our community by promoting God’s values of love, justice and peace and ex-tending this message of goodwill beyond our im-mediate boundaries.
PRAY WITH THE POPE IN MARCH
Formation in Spiritual Discernment That the Church may appreciate the urgency of for-
mation in spiritual discernment, both on the personal
and communitarian levels Amen
St Anthony’s Parish respectfully acknowledges that our church and Parish stands on the traditional lands of the D’harawal people. We also acknowledge the D’harawal
Elders, past, present and future who hold the memories,
traditions and culture of their people. We extend that respect to any Aboriginal parishioners
and visitors.
PARISH PHONES: The Following mobile number,
0457 911 475 will reach the Parish Office where
a message may be left, as well.
DONATIONS TO VINNIES – We thank you for all your sup-
port and donations over the Christmas period, we depend
on your support to be able to assist local people when they
are in crisis. You may have noticed that the bins have
been removed from our Picton Shop. We had to do this
because people were dumping rubbish, including rotting
food, out of hours so we would pay the tip fees for
them. We gladly accept donations of good quality clothes,
books and bric-a-brac during shop hours or ring the shop if
you have bigger items. We still have our bin on the Parish
grounds beside the Shack where you can leave donations
that fit in the bin at any time. This bin is emptied very reg-
ularly. Also, any donation of non-perishable food items
can be left in the basket at the back of the Church, and
they will be collected after 9.30 Mass each week, and will
be given to a local person or family who is struggling during
that week, and of course cash donations in the Poor Box
are most welcome too. Thank you again for your ongoing
support of our work. The local Vinnies Conference.

RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION:
160. The Priest then takes the paten or ciborium and ap-
proaches the communicants, who usually come up in proces-
sion. It is not permitted for the faithful to take the consecrat-
ed Bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and, still less,
to hand them on from one to another among themselves. The
faithful communicate either kneeling or standing, as has
been determined by the norms of the Conference of Bishops.
However, when they communicate standing, it is recommend-
ed that before receiving the Sacrament they make an appro-
priate sign of reverence, to be determined in the same
norms.

In Australia: The Priest then takes the paten or ciborium and
approaches the communicants, who usually come up in pro-
cession. It is not permitted for the faithful to take the conse-
crated Bread or the sacred chalice by themselves and, still
less, to hand them on from one to another among them-
selves. In the dioceses of Australia standing is the most com-
mon posture for receiving Holy Communion, though individual
members of the faithful may choose to receive Communion
while kneeling. When approaching to receive Holy Commun-
ion, the faithful bow in reverence of the Sacrament that they
are to receive.

Third Sunday of Lent
4 March 2018
Bayan is a 12 year old Syrian girl, living with her family in Jordan. An ambitious student, Bayan has her sights set on a career as an ophthalmologist. As a quiet, young refugee she struggled to overcome the trauma of growing up in a con-flict zone and faced the prospect of missing out on schooling. With Caritas Australia’s support, Bayan is an academic high-achiever who is flourishing in a stable school environment.
Please donate to Project Compassion 2018 and help equip young people to succeed in the future, bringing sta-bility to vulnerable youth, providing just futures for others like Bayan.
A Just Future starts with your support! You can donate through Parish boxes and envelopes, by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or phoning 1800 024 413.
