Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 1, 2018 O LORD, BE MY HELP

Today we encounter readings that draw us into the mys-

tery of suffering and death. In the past few years we have

witnessed the devastation of life and property through

earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to

God, simply asking, “Why?” This is an honest expression

of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life.

When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the pres-

ence of Christ is not enough to make that person rise, even

from death, as did the little girl in today’s Gospel passage.

Again we raise our voices and ask, “Why?” At moments

such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our

own: “Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my

helper.” Let us pray that our mourning will one day be

turned into dancing. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

The bereavement committee is retiring December 31,

would love to help train someone in the following six

months, July thru December as we will have other com-

very rewarding ministry. Men’s ACTS Retreat - August 9 - 12, 2018

Steubenville Lone Star! Each summer, Life Teen hosts six different Steubenville Youth Conferences with the hopes of strengthen-

ing and inspiring teens and youth groups in their collective journeys with Christ. This past weekend, 23

high school students from our F.F.C program attended the Steubenville Lone Star conference in Dallas!

There were over 4,000 teens at this conference. The theme this year was REVEALED “In this way the love of God

was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.” – 1 John 4:9

At the conference the teens listened to 4 amazing speakers: Fr. Mike Schmitz, Emily Wilson, Joel Stepanek and

Mike Gormley. The first night at the conference was an evening session with adoration, later confession was open to

the youth. Saturday was the first full day and we started off the day with Mass, after was small groups, a women’s

session with Emily Wilson, and a men’s session with Joel Stepanek; through out the day confession was available

for the youth, we ended the day with adoration. Sunday started off with a short morning session followed by Mass

with Bishop Burns, many priest (who attended the conference with their high school youth) and seminarians from

the Diocese of Fort Worth and Dallas. Steubenville Lone Star was a success and our youth came back with a love

and passion to spread the word of God! If you would like to hear some of the talks from Steubenville or see pictures

from the conference you can visit Life Teen’s facebook page or go to

https://steubenvilleconferences.com/youth/sls/#video

“You don’t have to fight for your Father’s attention and you don’t have to fight for the Father’s heart. In fact it’s

often the case that He is fighting for ours.” Fr. Mike Schmitz

July 7 we will meet to walk from the church parking lot at 5:30 am.

Walk with Fr. Tony!
