LISTEN TO YOUR DREAMS Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 30, 2017
God visits Solomon in a dream, and the scripture story
nowhere tells us that Solomon awoke to have this conversa-
tion with God! So, still in his dream, Solomon answers
God’s question about what he desires most, and God grants
his request for wisdom in abundance.
In our waking hours, we are much distracted by work,
home, family, traffic, entertainment, and many worries.
When we try to think about what we really want out of life,
we have trouble even imagining what that might be. But
deep inside, our real longings dwell, known to God and to
the Holy Spirit. Our dreams, unencumbered by defenses,
may hold clues to what our deepest needs are, or what
bothers us most. They could be God speaking. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Thinking about Separation or Divorce? — Is your marriage
or that of a relative or friend struggling or even heading for di-
vorce? Do you know how to save that marriage? Or do you feel
helpless? Retrouvaille is designed to help troubled marriages regain
their health. It helps spouses uncover or re-awaken the love, trust,
and commitment that originally brought them together. The program
is highly successful in saving hurting marriages, even bringing recon-
ciliation to couples who have already separated or divorced. For
confidential information about or to register for the August program
beginning with a weekend on August 25-27 call Paul or Patty Miguel
at 806-420-1520 or email us at [email protected] or visit
the website at www.HelpOurMarriage.com

There is a Church in Amarillo at the end of Amarillo Boulevard called “More Church.” On the side of the
building in big red letters is the word “More.” It is near St. Hyacinth’s. Fr. Jim Schmitmeyer jokes that one night he
wants to go and paint the words St. Thomas over the word “More.” I wonder how they picked the name for the
Church. I have a feeling it has something to do with the search for meaning. Isn’t it the main question of our life?
“Is there more?” The sign itself indicates that is you are looking for the answer that building just might be a location
to answer your question.
“To carry out such a task, the Church has always had the duty of scrutinizing the signs of the times and of
interpreting them in the light of the Gospel. Thus, in language intelligible to each generation, she can respond to the
perennial questions which men ask about this present life and the life to come, and about the relationship of the one
to the other. We must therefore recognize and understand the world in which we live, its explanations, its longings,
and its often dramatic characteristics.” Gaudium et spes 4.
What are the perennial questions that you ask about this present life? Perhaps you wonder about the meaning
of life, or the reason for suffering and pain. Maybe you ask the questions about life’s vocation, or God’s will for
your life? The questions of life have answers, deep life giving answers that can only be found in a relationship with
Jesus Christ. In Him we find all the “More” we could ever need.
