Acts portrays Pentecost’s Spirit communicating one faith in countless languages, drawing divergent nationalities into one

community, thus bestowing what Pope Francis calls “reconciled diversity.” Pentecost’s “strong driving wind” causes no

fear and trembling like the former revelation. Rather “tongues as of fire came to rest on each one of them”. God’s

powerful but gentle presence.

In Corinthians, Paul exhorts that diverse community (and ours) to celebrate the same Spirit’s different gifts in ourselves

and others in order to build up our diverse community into the one body of Christ. In Romans, Paul bids us abandon “the

flesh” meaning of life bereft of God, and embrace instead life bestowed by the “Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry,

“Abba, Father!””.

In the Gospel reading from the twentieth chapter of John, Jesus shows frightened disciples his peace-bestowing wounds,

then sends them forth to be “vulnerable” as he was, loving others as he loves us. So Pope Francis explains that, in this

Jubilee Year, Pentecost’s Spirit summons us afresh from past mediocrity and selfish isolation to share God’s mercy with

the world. The Gospel reading from the fourteenth chapter of John teaches us that keeping Jesus’ commandments and

word is not a “legal responsibility” but a choice of loving intimacy: ”my Father will love anyone who does so and we will

come to him and make our dwelling with him”. Celebrating the presence of “the Advocate, the Holy spirit”, Easter Time

closes with Christ’s promise of the Spirit’s role in the disciples (our) evolving grasp of truth: the Spirit will teach you

everything and remind you of all that I told you”

Prayer for the Week of May 15 – Pentecost

Easter Time ends with Pentecost. In Jesus’

Resurrection, Jesus broke the bonds of

human limitations and now promises that

we too will be raised as He was. In the

Ascension, the Father received the Son in

the divine realm and with the sending of the

Holy Spirit, we become Advocates of the

faith. Pentecost is the birthday of the

Church. We become messengers of the

Word spreading the Good News of Jesus,

our Savior. We are “joint heirs with Christ”.

These are not just nice phrases to hear as a

Catholic, but reminds us that we are

members of the family of Christ. We are his

beloved sons and daughters proclaiming His

love for all time.

Oh Jesus, let me remember that I am a

member of Your Family and act as a beloved

son or daughter of yours!

Petition for the Week:

For the safety of Father Todd and the

students who are on the mission with him to

Nicaragua, that they may feel the presence

of Jesus in their lives as they are Jesus’

advocates to those they will serve that

week, let us pray to the Lord.

For an increase of men and women heeding

God’s call to become, priests, nuns, and

brothers, let us pray to the Lord.

All Saints Catholic School has Summer Care available for any children ages 4-12 years old. You do not have to attend All Saints Catholic School to enroll in the ASCS Summer Care program. All are welcome! Summer Care is available at the 3 ASCS campuses and will run from 6am-6pm from June 8th -August 26th. Each week the chil-dren will have access to playgrounds, gym-nasiums and will partake in different themed activities and special outings. 1 child: Half Day (up to 4 hours) = $21 1 child: Full Day (more than 4 hours)=$35 *Multi-child discounts available.

Kenosha Catholic Woman’s Club will be hosting their May Luncheon / Meeting at the Kenosha Country Club, Sat., MAY 21ST. 11:00 social, 11:30am lunch. $20.00 call 262-764-3058 or 551-5492 by May, 10th 5pm. All res-ervations made and not attended are the responsibility of the person mak-ing the reservations. The club will be awarding 3--$1000.00 scholarships to 3 St. Joseph’s incoming 9th grade students. We will have the customary May Crowning. A very short business meeting will be conducted after the Scholarship award ceremony. This is the last meeting “of the Club

for the current” calendar year.
