Track EventsIn athletics we have a variety of different events, these events

can be divided into track and field.Track events take place on the running track, see the image

below.

Challenge 8Can you throw your frisbee (or a safe alternative) like a discus?

1. HOLDING Place the throwing hand on top of the Frisbee. Spread the fingers evenly but not stretched. Fingertips curling over the rim of the frisbee. Do not grip the frisbee.

2. PREPARATION Stand side on with the upper body facing away from the direction of

the throw. Chin, knee, toe all in line. Practice swinging frisbee going low to high.

3. RELEASE Transfer weight from back foot to front foot. Release the frisbee at shoulder height with speed, high into the sky

and follow through. Frisbee is released out of the forefinger.

Olympic Torch

Task 18:Design your own Olympic Torch.

A torch was lit outside of the Temple of Hera using flames created from rays from the Sun. Messengers took the torch around the country so that people knew about the games. Today the torch is lit as it was during the ancient Olympic Games. The flame travels around Greece and then to the country where the games will be taking place.

Just like the medals the designs have changed.

Olympic Mascots The Olympic mascots are fictional characters, usually an animal native to the area or human figures, who represent the cultural heritage of the place where the Olympic and Paralympic Games are taking place.
