St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today is the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, and Day-light Saving Time ends… Hope you remembered to turn your clock back one hour! “Faith is the daring of the soul to go farther than it can see. (William Newton Clark)

We seek many things in this life, but we should seek the Lord and His wisdom first. By so living, we will keep vigil for the Lord as we await his return in glory. (The Order of Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours and Cele-bration of the Eucharist 2011)

This is from a poster I got in the doctor’s office where my friend Pam works. She gave it to me, and because my last name goes from “A to Z,” I thought you would like to see what the letters stand for. Thanks, Pam… Can you guess Pam who? Here are our wishes for you and yours (by Meiji Stewart):

Adventures to enrich your souls Blessings showered upon you Courage to be yourself Dreams that come true Enthusiasm to fuel your passion Family, friends and faith Great things to look forward to Health to live life to the fullest Imagination to soar on Joy to color your thoughts Kind words to share Laughter to brighten your days Memories to keep you warm

To be continued next week . . . Dare to go farther than you can see. Serving Him Together, Barb A.

Together Let Us Cause God Joy

Readings for the Week

Monday: Wis 1:1-7; Lk 17:1-6 Tuesday: Wis 2:23 — 3:9; Lk 17:7-10 Wednesday: Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12; Ps 46; 1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17; Jn 2:13-22 Thursday: Wis 7:22b — 8:1; Lk 17:20-25 Friday: Wis 13:1-9; Lk 17:26-37 Saturday: Wis 18:14-16; 19:6-9; Lk 18:1-8 Sunday: Prv 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31; Ps 128; 1 Thes 5:1-6; Mt 25:14-30 [14-15, 19-21]

Today’s Readings

First Reading — Wisdom is easily discerned by those who love her (Wisdom 6:12-16). Psalm — My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God (Psalm 63). Second Reading — Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 [13-14]). Gospel — Stay awake! You know neither the day nor the hour (Matthew 25:1-13).

Miss Me—But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me,

I want not rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little—but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me—but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the Friend we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me—but let me go. In Loving Memory of James E. Downs

November 5-6, 2011

Dear Parishioners, During the month of November, we will have an "Altar of Remembrance" in the school hallway. Pictures of deceased loved ones will be displayed to help us remem-ber them. "We remember how they loved us to their death, and still we celebrate for they are with us here...."

Report cards will be issued this Wednesday, November 9, 2011. School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. on November 10, and we will hold Parent-Teacher Conferences on that afternoon and evening. There will be extended day ser-vices on that day. There will be no school on Friday, November 11, Veterans Day. We prayerfully remember all Veterans, living and deceased, and thank God for their bravery and dedication.

Our students are collecting toiletries, magazines, playing cards, and snacks to send in care packages to our mili-tary members for Christmas. If you'd like to contribute, you may drop your items off at the school office any day during business hours.

We thank God every day for all of you and for your financial and spir-itual support of your parish school.

God bless you,

Donna Lamoureux

Alumni Update

The Fundraising Committee would like to thank everyone who sponsored, helped with, and dined at our 2nd Annual Halloween Pan-cake Breakfast last weekend. We could not have pulled off such a wonderfully successful

event without the contributions of the Lansing Copper Muggers, TF South, Edible Arrangements, Aunt Sally’s, Marilyn Aiken and her raffle baskets, the talented bak-ing skills of our school families and members of the Women’s Club, the many volunteers who helped set up, bus tables, and clean up and, of course, all of you who came to break “bread” with us, purchase raffle and lot-tery tickets, wreaths, pies, and everything else we had to offer! And thank you, especially, for helping us to build such a warm, welcoming community here at St. Ann’s!

Altar Server Party Sunday, November 13, 11:30 a.m.

Parish Hall

All current altar servers are invited to a fun gathering next weekend!

FMI, call Erin Meegan at 708-227-5497.

Our Box Tops Challenge winners could not have ordered a more picture-perfect day to enjoy lunch together with Principal Lamoureux and Father Bill on our new front “porch.” Students received one entry to the contest for every 20 Box Tops they submitted, and two winners were drawn from each grade. Our own Lansing Subway donated all of the lunches, and passing drivers gamely obeyed the signs asking them to “Honk at Our Box Tops Chal-lenge Winners!”

Congratulations to some of our alumni who played on un-defeated, conference-winning football teams this season: TF South Sophomores Ricky Ramirez and Josh Gentry, and Mt. Carmel Freshmen A.J. Tarka and Ryan Murphy. Additionally, Dylan Angel will represent TF South down state for cross country. We’re proud of you, our former Roughriders!

We love to hear updates about our St. Ann alumni. Please send any news you may have to [email protected] for inclusion in future bulletins.

Pot of Gold Party

It might seem like a long time until St. Patrick’s Day, but it’s already time to start planning our next Annual Pot of Gold Party! Pot of Gold is our parish’s main fundraiser, and the 2012 party will be even more spe-cial because it will kick off our yearlong Golden Anni-versary Celebration that will culminate in 2013. We are in the process of forming committees to get the ball rolling. All who are interested in helping out with this fun event can contact Mike Kabala at 708-525-7987. Our first meeting will take place in mid-November. Keep an eye on the bulletin for details!

Christmas Tree Family Event

Parishioners are invited to decorate ornaments for our Christmas tree with their families, either at home or at our very first Ornament Decorating Day, November 20 in the Parish Hall after 10:30 a.m. mass.

The Liturgy Committee will provide bulbs, glue, glitter, ribbons, and family name tags. Participants may bring in additional supplies to create their ornaments, which will decorate the 12-foot tree placed in the Narthex for Christ-mas. Christmas music, hot cocoa and cookies will help provide a festive atmosphere for the ornament decorators.

A special ceremony will then take place on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. in Church, complete with Christ-mas songs by the St. Ann choir, followed by the formal Christmas tree lighting in the Narthex.

All St. Ann families are invited to attend. We will have sign-up sheets for Decorating Day after all Masses starting next weekend to ensure that we have enough supplies for everyone. For those who wish to bring in their family creations made at home, we will begin collecting ornaments after all Masses beginning November 19 & 20.

FMI, please contact Debbie Bona at 708/895-4603.
