REMEMBER THAT SEPTEMBER IS THE MONTH OF THE SEVEN DOLORS OF MARY!

9/11 Fifteen years later, those numbers still evoke poignant memories. Everybody has his own story about the events of that fateful day. Join with me to pray for the 3,000 of our countrymen who were murdered by Islamic terrorism (including 400 or so heroic First Responders): Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them, and may their souls and all the souls of the faithful de-parted, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

FOOD FOR THE POOR Next weekend, September 17 & 18, I will be out of town at a Catholic convention in Omaha. In my absence, our trusty, hard-working and ever-reliable Deacon Joe Kroutil will conduct a Communion Ser-vice on Friday (Sept. 16) and Monday (Sept. 19) and the weekend Masses will be celebrated by Fr. Rob-ert E. White of Venice, Florida, who will be here to make an appeal on behalf of his charity, Food For The Poor. Their name pretty much tells the whole story: despite the wealth and abundance that exists in some places, there are many hungry people in the world, and Christ’s mandate to feed them still obtains 2,000 years after He issued it. I’ll let Fr. White tell the story. Please be generous to his appeal.

CATECHISM CLASS The fall term of my catechism class commences on Tuesday, Sept. 20. No tuition, no fees, no aca-demic credit, but those who graduate (by the summer of 2029) will have their doctorate in sound Catho-lic teaching and will provide much sterner resistance to Satan and his wiles.

LIFE BEGAN IN A GARDEN I stand in awe of the wonderful men and women of our Garden Sodality who so masterfully and lov-ingly maintain our parish gardens (and have thus earned us the sobriquet “Shaw’s Garden North”). That’s mostly because I have no aptitude for horticulture at all, but I think anyone would be whelmed by their mastery of their craft and the assiduity with which they lavish their skill. In addition, they have got to be the best-connected people I have ever known. Whenever the plants needed watering this past summer, did they come up and do it? No. Didn’t need to. Apparently they just called God on His cell phone and He sent just the right amount of rain! (Check the weather reports to see if I’m joking.) Now that’s being connected! In all seriousness, speaking on behalf of our whole parish, I thank them for all they do (and if any new parishioners would like to help them in what they do, please make your names known to us).

QUIZ-A-CATHOLIC The month of September is rich with the feasts of saints. Let’s see how many of them you can identify (with the dates of their feasts):

1. Perhaps the best-loved modern saint, this thaumaturge (i.e., “miracle-worker”) and stigmatist (i.e., had the “stigmata”) died in 1968 and was canonized in 2002. 2. The holy martyrs of what far-eastern country also have their feast this month. 3. This Jesuit missionary’s canonization was helped by a miracle that occurred in St. Louis. 4. Name the Doctor of the Church and preacher who was called “the golden tongue”. 5. Another Jesuit, this man was so smart that his enemies thought he had to be more than one man. He also tried to get Galileo to tone back his offensive rhetoric. (He failed.)

If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Church Office.

St. Angela Merici Choir’s Need You!

Choir season is almost here! The St. Angela Merici Traditional Choir is looking for new members to join the choir. For more information, call Sharon Churchill, 921-2521 or stop by the organ after mass.

The St. Angela Merici Guitar Choir also wel-comes any new members who would like to sing with them. For more info, stop by after 5:00 pm Mass or call Peggy Graziani, 636-561-2434.

This is a great place to be!! Here are just a few reasons why!!

The view out of my office window is heaven-ly!! This is thanks to our wonderful garden-ers!!! I have regular visits from two humming-birds -- one is grey and the other is grey and white. I have milkweed filled with monarch but-terflies and now caterpillars and now chrysalis.

Our fourth graders are enjoying a butterfly house in their room. The house is filled with milkweed that has been eaten by monarch caterpillars and there are chrysalises. Soon, they will have Mon-arch butterflies! All of this was provided again by our gardeners and a parishioner purchased the house for us!!

Our sixth graders are raising money for their Outdoor Education to Camp Sherwood. One of our parents procured Cardinal box seats and a parking pass. They are having a raffle for these tickets, and the cost is $5 per raffle ticket. We appreciate the cooperation of our wonderful par-ents. One parent has already asked for 20 more raffle tickets beside the first 20 they were given.

Where else could you go and have this many wonderful people surround you!!?? St. Angela Merici is a great parish community!!! God is Good!

From The Desk of: Mrs. Mary Ann Kauffman, Principal

Popcorn & soda will be provided! See you Friday night!

Movie Night at S.A.M!

Please join us Friday, September 16th, at 7:00 PM in the lunchroom for the show-ing of the movie “Passion of Joan of Arc”. This 1928 film is a true work of art, as is the musical accompaniment, RichardEinhorn's Voices of Light,. The movie depicts the life of the young woman who died for God and faith in Rouen, France in 1431, during the 100 Years war. This original production was thought to have burnt in a fire but was found in perfect condition in a closet at a mental institution in Norway

ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…

• Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? • Has a child over the age of seven who has not been baptized? • Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not cele-brated the Sacraments of Confirmation/Eucharist? We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and pre-pare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Bap-tism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children or youth. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith sto-ry in a warm accepting setting. For information please contact Steve Graham at 314-749-4343.

Spiritual Adoption

The St. Angela Merici Respect Life Committee is asking you to participate in this year’s spiritual adoption program. This is something very valu-able – we can spiritually adopt babies who are known by God to be in danger of abortion. Eve-ry day for the nine months of the baby’s devel-opment, you will pray the Spiritual Adoption Prayer, which are on green cards available in the church lobby and on the table by the lunchroom.

Prayer is a very powerful tool, especially inter-cessory prayer when you pray for the benefit of someone else. Ask that your baby’s mother is given the guidance and support needed so that she will value the life of the child within her womb. A baby’s life may be saved and a young woman may be spared the grief and guilt of an abortion all because you were willing to pray for them!

If you have any questions about this program, please call Debbie Pilla at 314-803-0759

2016 Friends for Life Parish Campaign

The Friends for Life Campaign is the only direct appeal for funds to support the programs of the Respect Life Apostolate. Now more than ever your contribution is needed to build a Culture of Life. Your gift will help heal those who suffer as a result of an abortion through Project Rachel and Project Joseph coun-seling. Your gift will educate more than 1,900 eighth grade students and their parents annually about the reality of abortion and the blessings of chastity through the Right START program. It will protect those who are disabled, frail or el-derly by enhancing education about end of life decisions that respect the intrinsic value of every human life. The weekend of Sept. 24/25, you will find Friends for Life envelopes in the pews. You may return your envelope in the collection basket through Nov. 1. Thank you for your faithful and generous support of the spiritual, educational, public policy and pastoral programs of the Re-spect Life Apostolate.
