By his hospitality in this weeks First Reading, Abraham shows us how we are to welcome the Lord into our lives. His selfless service of his divine guests (see Hebrews 13:1) stands in contrast to the portrait of Martha drawn in this weeks Gospel. Where Abraham is concerned only for the well-being of his guests, Martha speaks only of herself—Do you not care that my sister has left me by myself? . . . Tell her to help me.Jesusgentle rebuke reminds us that we risk missing the divine in the mundane, that we can fall into the trap of believing that God somehow needs to be served by human hands (see Acts 17:25). Our Lord comes to us not to be served but to serve (see Matthew 20:28). He gave His life that we might know the one thing we need, the better part, which is life in the fellowship of God. Jesus is the true Son promised today by Abrahams visitors (see Matthew 1:1). In Him, God has made an everlasting covenant for all time, made us blessed descendants of Abra- ham (see Genesis17:19, 21; Romans 4:1617, 1921). The Church now offers us this covenant, bringing to com- pletion the word of God, the promise of His plan of salva- tion, what Paul calls the mystery hidden for ages.As once He came to Abraham, Mary, and Martha, Christ now comes to each of us in Word and Sacrament. As we sing in this weeks Psalm: He will make His dwelling with those who keep His Wordand practice justice (see also John 14:23). If we do these things we will not be anxious or disturbed, will not have our Lord taken from us. We will wait on the Lord, who told Abraham and tells each of us: I will surely return to you.Copyright © 2019 The St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, SEMINARIAN DINNER—Buy your tickets today for the 2019 Seminarian Night Dinner and Fundrais- er!!! God wants to dwell with each of us personally, intimately—as the mysterious guests once visited Abraham’s tent, as Jesus once entered the home of Mary and Martha. By his hospitality in this week’s First Reading, Abraham shows us how we are to welcome the Lord into our lives. His selfless service of his divine guests (see Hebrews 13:1) stands in contrast to the portrait of Martha drawn in this week’s Gospel.

Where Abraham is concerned only for the well-being of his guests, Martha speaks only of herself—“Do you not care that my sister has left me by myself? . . . Tell her to help me.” Jesus’ gentle rebuke reminds us that we risk missing the divine in the mundane, that we can fall into the trap of believing that God somehow needs to be served by human hands (see Acts 17:25).

Our Lord comes to us not to be served but to serve (see Matthew 20:28). He gave His life that we might know the one thing we need, the “better part,” which is life in the fellowship of God.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION—We need mo-ments of adoration to speak heart-to-heart with our Eucharistic Lord so that we get to know Him in a very personal way.... Archbishop Fulton Sheen said there are three main reasons for the Eucharistic holy hour: (1) our friendship with Jesus, (2) our transfor-mation through God‘s grace and (3) our calling to make reparation and intercession for sinners. —Fr Andrew Apostoli

These hours need more adorers soon, for many rea-sons:

Sunday 1 am Wednesday 10 pm Thursday Midnight to 1 am and 4 am Friday 12 Noon, 3 pm and 10 pm Saturday 6:30-8pm, and 8 pm

Please contact Virginia at 632-0272 for more information or to reserve a holy hour in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Thanks also to our own Knights of Columbus who did their usual fantastic job of being Parade Marshalls.

And thank you to all who manned and visited the St. Andrew Booth.

ST. ANDREW’S LANDSCAPE NEEDS SOME TLC!—As you have undoubtedly noticed, the church grounds have not been tended to this summer and it is very obvious! We need to do something about this at least through September.

Last July Fr. Arthur and I met with the work force coordinator of a faith based organization and made a tentative plan to hire a few young men as need be to take care of the landscape during this summer. That plan fell through. Since we have no other viable options right now, I am bringing back the “area sign up sheet” this weekend. We are only concerned with grooming the beds close to the building. Please consid-er donating some time to help with this project.—Tamea Isham, Landscape Chair-688-3671
