Update on the Stritch School of Medicine Re-accreditation

Our medical school is scheduled to undergo its reaccreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) on Nov 6th – 9th 2016. In preparation for this review, five different subcommittees have completed a self-study, our students have completed an Independent Student Analysis (ISA) and we are completing a Data Collection Instrument (DCI). The DCI is a several hundred page document and associated appendices that provides information on processes and out-comes on all aspects of medical education as outlined within the LCME document, (Functions and Structure of a Medical School: Standards for Accreditation of Medical Education Programs Leading to the M.D. Degree). This fall the DCI and ISA will be sub-mitted to the LCME along with an executive summary of the five separate subcommittee reports. All of us within the Stritch School of Medicine want to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has already participated within this process. In addition, we want to acknowledge our health sciences/health care campus faculty and staff who have enabled our school to fulfill its missions of education, research and patient care while addressing community healthcare dis-parities.

Each graduating class has the opportunity to identify two faculty who have impacted their entire class with their teaching skills in the classroom and clinic, advise, humanism and support. They are recognized as their role models and mentors. This year their decision was clear. Congratulations to Dr. Paul Hering, Outstanding Clinical Professor and Dr. Trent Reed, Outstanding Basic Science Professor. They will be participating in the hooding ceremony at the May 21, 2016 commencement ceremony.
