SSMUN 2ND EDITION 21ST& 22ND SEPTEMBER 2017

Sri Sri Model United Nations (SSMUN) was held on 21st and 22nd September,

2017 in the school premises of Sri Sri Academy. Over 350 delegates participated

in this conference.

The opening ceremony of the second edition of SSMUN 2017 was initiated by a

warm and cordial address by the Deputy Secretary General, Abhishek Agarwal

wherein he welcomed delegates and dignitaries alike. Thereafter the Guests of

Honour were felicitated by the students of Sri Sri Academy. Ms. Sangeeta

Joseph, our faculty advisor and the person who has moulded the foundation of

SSMUN delivered her address, sharing her experience throughout the SSMUN

journey. Our principal, Ms. S. Shunglu then introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Craig

L. Hall, the U.S consul general and all our special guests, Ms. Kusum Musaddi,

Mr. Murlidhar Koteshwar and Professor Dr. Dhruv Pande.

The school band Enigma performed the Guru Vandana and ‘Numb’ by

Linkin Park as a tribute to Chester Bennington. The Under Secretary General,

Gopal Agarwal introduced the Executive Board. After the members of the board

collected their respective gavels, the Secretary General, Nishu Patodia declared

the conference open. Lastly, the delegates were shown a short video that left

everybody inspired.

This year the committees which we simulated were United Nations General

Assembly Legal[6] (agenda – reviewing the convention of the Montego Bay),

United Nations Security Council (Current situation in the Middle East), South

Asian Association Regional Cooperation (The situation in Sri Lanka with respect

to Tamilians), Rajya Sabha (Uniform Civil court and Triple Talaq {under matter of

urgent public importance} ), International Press Corps (increasing protection of

media units across the world) .

All good things come to an end and so did the closing ceremony of Sri Sri

Academy Model United Nations conference 2017. Speeches were delivered by

the Deputy Secretary General, Secretary General and the Under Secretary

General. The executive board members were called up on stage to announce the

award winners. The overall school delegation award winners were announced,

which was followed by a wave of cheers by the audience. The runners up for the

outstanding delegation was won by St. Thomas’ for Boys School. The outstanding

delegation was received by Delhi Public School, Megacity. The school that

received the award for the best delegation was Lakshmipat Singhania Academy.

After the awards were given out, the conference was declared close and the

gathering rose for the national anthem and we ended on the note of ‘hope’ and

manifestations of the same.
