Introducing Universal Access
Traditionally, service providers have deployed separate networks for their business, residential, and mobilecustomers. Convergence and network simplification have been hallmark trends for service providers in recent years, and Juniper has led the way with the Universal Edgeone common platform for business, residential, and mobilesubscribers. Access networks could also benefit from consolidation, but this has remained a challenge due to the
disparate technologies developed for mobile, residential, and business access. Instead of relying on separate accessdevices to connect customers, operators want to converge access networks to deliver both a more predictableexperience to users and better economics to shareholders.
Junipers Universal Access solution is based on the high-performance Juniper Networks ACX Series Universal AccessRouters, anchoring the first fully integrated, end-to-end network architecture that combines operational intelligencewith capital cost savings. With Universal Access, operators can extend the edge network and its capabilities to thecustomer, whether thats a cell tower, a multi-tenant unit, or a residential aggregation point. This creates a seamlessMPLS architecture that is critical to delivering the benefits of 4G radio and packet core evolution with minimal truckrolls, paving the way for new revenue, new business models, and a more flexible and efficient network.
Universal Access also uses Junos Space to offer a single management plane. This enables an open, standards-basedmanagement system that allows for rapid provisioning, fault management, Operation, Administration, andMaintenance (OAM), and service monitoring, as well as integration into existing management systems. In addition, proven synchronization technology results in better utilization of assetsmore calls added, fewer calls dropped, andmore data transported with fewer retransmissions, leading to happier customers and a healthier bottom line.

The ACX Series, a key component of Universal Access, is built to support diverse service architectures. It enablesrapid deployment of access services, and it transforms the network to create a seamless end-to-end service deliveryarchitecture.
ACX Series routers enable the Universal Access architecture to run Juniper Networks Junos operating system (JunosOS) from access to edge to core, providing a seamless end-to-end service delivery network for all applications andcustomers. The operational intelligence of IP/MPLS in the Junos OS permits traffic steering and makes efficient use ofexisting bandwidth. Flexible services can be applied at the access layer and optimized per customer. ACX Seriesrouters also incorporate the Juniper Networks TCA Series Timing Appliances technology to deliver high precision, high bandwidth, carrier-class timing and synchronization.
The ACX Series platforms include fixed form-factor models in Juniper Networks ACX1000, ACX1100, ACX2000, andACX2100 Uni versal Access Routers, and a modular option in the ACX4000 Universal Access Router. Theforthcoming ACX5000 Series Universal Access Routers will be high density, high capacity, low cost 1-Gigabit Ethernet/ 10-Gigabit Ethernet / 40-Gigabit Ethernet aggregation routers targeted for Metro Ethernet aggregation. The ACX500is designed for small cell deployments.

Junipers Evolved Mobile Backhaul Solution
Juniper Networks offers mobile backhaul solutions that can be purely IP/Ethernet-MPLS based or a hybrid of Ethernetand other Layer 2 technologies such as ATM, T1-E1, and Frame Relay. Juniper Networks products are suited for awide range of mobile backhaul solutions that span migration strategies from legacy technologies to greenfielddeployments that meet the requirements of the next generation mobile backhaul networks.
Solution components include the following:
Juniper ACX Series routers for cell sites with NSN MW Radio; MX Series routers for pre-aggregation or aggregation/hubsite router; Juniper MX Series as provider edge (PE) router plus NSNs or Junipers Grandmaster; and Junos Space plus NSN NetAct with NetViewer for management.
There can be multiple migration paths from the existing legacy-technology-based backhaul networks. Some of theseoptions can provide a migration strategy that fits with the long-term plan to move to the latest technologies such asLTE.
The functionality of the mobile backhaul network is independent and not influenced by the type of traffic that is
transported across the network. Services such as class of service (CoS), MPLS, and virtual private LAN service(VPLS)coupled with features such as high availability HA, OAM, and reliabilitycan be leveraged for mobile traffic.Mobile network operators that are already familiar with the Junos OS can implement all of the end-to-end backhaulnetwork with considerable ease.
Juniper Networks can provide one solution for Layer 2 and Layer 3regardless 2G/2.5G/3G/LTE/WiMax.

Metrocell Deployment Use Case
On this slide we are showing a simple use case for the ACX500. In this application, ACX500 is placed indoors andserves the small cell and the various femtocells. It provides IPsec functionality for management traffic, acts like aDHCP server for the small cells, and also performs NAT. The reason why it performs NAT and IPsec is because thetraffic is traversing the third-party ISP network that is essentially not trusted, and there is a need for address
translation. This use case is currently tested and being trialed with AT&T.

ACX5000 Line
The ACX5000 line of routers are high density, high capacity, low cost 1-, 10-, and 40-Gigabit Ethernet aggregationrouters targeted for Metro Ethernet aggregation.
The following two models will be available in the first half of 2015:
The ACX5048, which is 1U in height, with 48 1-Gigabit Ethernet/10-Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports, along with six40-Gigabit Ethernet quad small form-factor pluggable plus (QSFP+) uplinks, and 1.44 Tbps throughput; and
The ACX5096, which is 2U in height, with 96 1-Gigabit Ethernet/10-Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports, along with eight40-Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ uplinks.
The ACX5000 line provides E-LINE, E-LAN and IP-VPN service. It enables service providers to deploy cost-effectiveMetro Ethernet aggregation solutions that are suited for a new wave of Metro Ethernet deployments where 10-GigabitEthernet user-to-network interface (UNI) will rapidly replace 1-Gigabit Ethernet UNIs due to the evolution of thebusiness customer, gigabit passive optical network (GPON), and base stations, from 1-Gigabit Ethernet to 10-GigabitEthernet interfaces.
The ACX5000 routers will enable Juniper to enhance its market position in the Metro Ethernet market.

ACX 5000 Applications: Metro-E Aggregation (Business)
In this role, the ACX5000 router acts like a high-capacity Ethernet aggregation device (EAD) device, ideal for servicinglarge buildings or business areas. It enables service providers to offer 1-Gigabit Ethernet service and capture newcustomer opportunities as demand for 10-Gigabit Ethernet service takes off.
If local rings are used for creation of service coverage, the 40-Gigabit Ethernet option can be considered as a veryhandy option that provides optimal usage of the local dark fiber. An ACX5000 router can cover all essentialfunctionality needed for this position in the network, such as the following:
MEF service; IP VPN service; E-OAM; RFC 2544 reflection that enables issuing of service certificates, option to create simplified deployments by using
G.8032 in addition to deployments of IP/MPLS in the last mile.
