General Information

Manager’s CornerDear Members, W e a r e f a s t approaching the end of the summer, and af ter the summer we have had, we are looking forward to some cool, dr y weather. We were fairly wet the last couple of months; August left us with over nine inches of rain and September is shaping up to be quite similar in rainfall. As of the 24th of September, we have received more than seven inches of rain. The golf course is in tremendous shape and the staff has done a truly remarkable job given the amount of rain we have had. All of us anticipate the return of many of your northern members in the next couple of months. Please travel safely and we look forward to having all of you back to the Club. A large amount of activities are planned through the end of December. We will have a packed calendar of social events as well as our Couple’s Member Guest Golf Tournament coming up in October. The Club will host a Halloween Party on October 31st for members, and we are encouraging all who attend to come to the party in costume. If you are in town for Thanksgiving, the Club will have its traditional Buffet on November 27th and as in the past, we encourage you to call the Club office early to secure your reservations. At the end of December, the Club will celebrate the end of 2014 with the popular Money Madness New Year’s Eve Tapas. The House Committee, Wendi

and Chef John Clark have put together a wonderful menu for that evening. Seating for this members only event is limited, so secure your tickets early as this event is always sold out in

advance. These are just a few of the upcoming events that are scheduled, please take some time to review all the events that have been planned and make your reservations accordingly. Last month I reported that the pond project between holes 11 and 18 on the Champion Course had been delayed. After recent meetings with the County, this project is being resurrected for 2015. Grant money for this project has been extended through next year and we will hopefully have everything in place to begin this project in April of 2015. As we reported previously, this pond will separate the storage of effluent water from our storm water system and eliminate the co-mingling of storm water and effluent water that is frowned on by the D.E.P. Finally, please pay special attention to the newsletter as it does contain quite a bit of information on upcoming events, both Social and Golf. The entire staff looks forward to a very busy 2014 and 2015 season. Don’t forget to join us in the lounge for NFL Sunday football; food will be available from 11:00 am through 6:00 pm. Travel slowly and we will see all of you at the Club.

The First Tee of Tampa Bay T h e G o l f S h o p is very excited and proud to announce that Seven Springs will now be a host site for The First Tee of Tampa Bay. This is a nation-wide program, originally formed in 1991, that offers year-round hands-on group golf lessons for kids ages 5 through 18. As golf professionals, we are always looking for an opportunity to grow the game. Also, through the game of golf, the program incorporates the Nine Core Val-ues to help the children grow as individuals as well as learn the game of a lifetime. In addition to learning good fundamentals, the rules of golf, and etiquette each week, the group will have a discussion facilitated by Lead Instructor Aaron Fusiek. During this time, everyone in the group will give personal examples of what it means to live and play with Nine Core Values of Respect, courtesy, responsibility, honesty, sports-manship, confidence, good judgment, perseverance, and integrity. Our main goal is that we can all learn a lot with the First Tee, and hopefully the chil-dren become golfers forever. To learn more about The First Tee or how to get involved, please visit www.thefirstteetampabay.org.

Golf Cart GuidelinesFor Those WithRed Flag Privileges Many of the Athletic Com-mittee members have observed numerous instances of our members taking liberties out-side the guidelines set forth for Carts with Red Flags. The guidelines are set to help players with handicap problems, but at the same time we cannot allow the course to be abused

From The Proby those not follow-ing the guidelines. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

1. Access to the tees and putting sur-faces should only be from the back or sides of the putting greens.

2. Keep the carts at least 12 feet from the collars of the greens and closely mown areas of any tee surface.

3. Do not drive up or down in-clines around the greens. Stay at the bottom of the slope.

4. Do not drive carts between any greenside bunker and the putting surface.

5. Do not drive carts in any areas marked “no carts” or inside the yellow marked areas in front of the greens.

6. The rangers have been in-structed to report violations to the golf shop for follow up.

7. Rules are for Red Flag carts only. All other carts should part on cart paths around tees and greens.

The Athletic Committee thanks you again for your help and cooperation. It is very im-portant that we preserve the integrity of our golf courses by following the few rules.

We’ve found that more and more of our members are access-ing our website for our Club information. Some of those members,

however, are not completely “tech” savvy, so we now offer classes that are designed to educate them on using our site, the internet and their smart devices. Cover-ing topics from the simple and basic to the more challenging navigation of social media and internet avenues. This

class is limited in size to allow for ease of instruction

to all of our northern members. Hope you had a great summer.

Al l o f t h e g o l f course aerifications are done for the summer and we are scheduled to overseed greens on November 3rd on the Champion Course and No-vember 10th on the Challenger Course.

We are continuing to do some tree work around the course to help improve turf conditions and overall aesthet-

ics to the golf course. The sprigs we put down last year will continue to get better. The wall on #8 is nearly com-plete and should be a big aesthetic improve-ment over the old one!

We are looking for-ward to a good over-

seeding this year and excellent winter playing conditions. Thank you for your continued support and as always, feel free to contact me with any of your questions.

From The Ladies’ Tee

WOW! What an exciting year the Garden Club has had!!! We contributed $13,777 to the beautification of the Club. We purchased new pots for plants under the portico; donated a boat and motor to the main-tenance crew, so they could clean up the ponds; purchased new Christmas decorations for the front entrance; and our big project was the new plant-ings and lighting and sprinkler system for the front entrance, which had not been updated since the 1970’s. SO, come join us for our new season starting on October 8th at 10:00 am in the Presidents’ Room at the Club. The meet-ings are held on the second Wednesday of every month from October until May. We are planning another ex-citing year full of adventure and improvements for our Club. This year includes a trip on the Calypso Queen in February and a social Christmas Party with entertainment. We will also be bringing back an old favorite fundraiser “Baskets of Cheer.” Come see what the Garden Club is all about! Join us at one of our meetings and listen to our guest speakers to help you decide if you would like to be part of this energetic group that contributes so much to the beautification of the Seven Springs Country Club.

Upcoming Events andDates To RememberWednesday, October 8, 2014 Monthly Meeting The speaker for our first meet-

If you prefer, bake with a friend or just join us for the ornament exchange. Call Joanne Kowalski, 372-0181 to reserve a spot!

2014-2015 Season! We hope everyone had a great summer and that you are looking forward to the begin-ning of our golf season.

“Let’s Have Fun” said our pro shop, and 67 players did just that in our July 22nd Invi-tational this summer. A good time was had by all. Thanks pro shop!

We kick off the Ladies’ Golf Association with our Opening Luncheon, October 21st. The Opening “Oktoberfest” Lun-cheon and Scramble is being chaired by Carolyn Buhr and Linda Kobus and their com-mittee. This event will begin with breakfast, followed by our golf team scramble, lunch, prizes and, of course, our opening business meeting. Our official SS-LGA meeting that day will follow our luncheon. Our officers for the 2014-15 sea-son are: Janet Litzel will return as Presi-dent; Cleo Andolina will be Vice President; Jan Pettit will return as treasurer; and Marilyn Babineau will return as Secretary. These ladies are supported by over 30 volun-teers who chair our commit-tees and events throughout the year. We even have a few gentlemen in supportive board positions and need to take time to thank them. Sal Andolina completes the work on our handbook and Jim Kowalski co chairs our garage sale. During our meeting, we will discuss our calendar of golf and social events and have a guest speaker, our Mark Haluska, who will review rules and etiquette and answer questions.

April 9, 2015 Installation LuncheonMay 13, 2015 Wrap-up Meeting

Just A Bit Of History Did you know that Sev-en Springs Garden Club was founded on October 1990? Since then, it has grown into a group that not only organizes fun activities to fundraisers, but it sponsors scholarships and makes donations to various Club improvements, enhancing the beauty of our community. We welcome new members; please consider becoming a member if you’ve recently moved in. You will meet people and make good friends. Con-

tact Kathleen Colledge, 727-264-6145, or any other officer for more details.

FYI Jan Lindsey is still collect-ing unwanted vases and other suitable containers to donate to the Random Acts of Flowers. This organization collects both vases and flowers (often gently used) to bring to hospital pa-tients for cheer. Please consider donating those fun containers, so others can enjoy them.

Needed Committee Chair people! Still unfilled are Chair people for Baskets of Cheer, the Installation Luncheon, and Flower of the Month. Contact Kathleen Cooledge, 727-264-6145, if you are interested.

And don’t forget you must be a member of SSGCC if you want to be a member of the Garden Club.
