SSC San Diego…on Point and at the Center of C4ISR
BackgroundBackground
• Unmanned systems have rapidly transformed operations in operation in Iraq and Afghanistan– Predator unmanned aerial system– Talon and PackBot Counter-IED unmanned systems
• User confidence in unmanned systems has led to the generation of new requirements– Systems provide critical capabilities in hazardous operations– Currently an adjunct capability not fully integrated into the force
structure• Unmanned systems development efforts now span academia,
industry, an government– Structured, integrated approach is necessary to fully realize the potential
of unmanned systems– Opportune time to establish the infrastructure for unmanned systems
development efforts

Unmanned Systems Path AheadUnmanned Systems Path Ahead
• Link unmanned systems efforts to key AT&L initiatives within Joint Advanced Concepts and SPAWAR CTO
• Elevates and integrates unmanned systems into the development of future force capabilities
• Leverage and focus DDR&E RDT&E efforts to transition and field
• Formalize an organizational construct to meet Congressional direction from the FY2007 NDAA
