Contrasting connectors Despite-In spite of: Are used as prepositions. *I won the game in spite of the rain/ raining all day. *I won the game despite the rain.

Although- Even though: have the same meaning they begin a clause.

*Although the movie was great, we waited on the line for so long. However-Nevertheless-On the other hand: are use to

start a 2nd sentence that contrast the 1st one. They are followed by a comma.

*The city is expensive. However, I love living in here.*The apartment is expensive. On the other hand, it has a great

view.
