Information for parents and carers of Year 9 students (28.09.20 – 02.10.20)

This document has been produced to support parents and carers in ensuring that all Year 9 students continue to access a rich, challenging curriculum

throughout this period of disruption that we are currently facing.

On page 3 you will find details regarding the resources and instructions for students to continue their learning whilst working from home. On the

final pages you will also find a list of email addresses for key contacts in each department, should you have any queries regarding these resources

(for example, if your son/daughter has forgotten their password).

Write an account of Lennie’s fight with Curley from Curley’s point of view. How would he describe what happened? Do you think he would tell the truth – that he took on Lennie and lost – or do you think he would be too proud to admit the truth? Focus on using ambitious vocabulary and a variety of literary techniques in your writing (simile, metaphor, personification, interesting verbs, adjectives and adverbs, alliteration, etc)

If you complete these tasks, spend some more time reading this week. Remember you can submit book reviews to Mrs Ransome in the Library for house point rewards. Email your work to your class teacher

Maths Log in to www.Mathswatch.co.uk and complete the activities that have been set by your class teacher which will appear on days you have a mathematics lesson this week. The tasks will be titled in the following way – SELF ISOLATION TASK, GROUP NAME, DATE OF LESSON, TITLE. Login details and passwords remain the same as last academic year. Science Go to the FROG science subject site, then to your year group, then to Term 1 and use the guidance there to complete the relevant lessons.

If you have not yet done so, download the free Quizlet app and the free Languagenut app. These sites can both be accessed via the internet, but work better on the app. If you have not set up a Quizlet account yet, sign up for a free student account and join the year group class. (Class link - https://quizlet.com/join/x9D3z4eYF) This week, you need to learn the words in the study set called T1 Hwk 4 – Future tense. When you have completed that, there is an assignment for you to consolidate your learning on Languagenut. Decoration inspired by Artists work, this could be a boarder or a copy of one of his pictures.

Write your opinions on the artist’s work - How would you describe his paintings? What do you like about them? Which is your favourite and why? If you could paint or create like the artist, what would you paint?

On the right, you will see some examples of artist research pages like the one we would like to see you create. How long should it take you? 2 hours in total. 30 mins research – reading, highlighting facts, watching the video 45 mins arranging and gluing down the images of Artists work and writing out the facts. 15 mins writing your opinions of his/her paintings. 30 mins decorating your page using the colours and brush strokes he/she uses.

PE At school you would have 2 hours of PE per week. However, you are potentially missing lots of exercise at the moment due to not walking/cycling to the academy, not playing sport outside of school, not going swimming, etc. Therefore, you may wish to use the PE VLE subject site to help you stay active. On the Home Learning link there are a number of physical activity ideas and short training sessions that you can complete at home. Remember, government guidelines are that you should complete 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
