Srirasthu! Maha Kumbhabhishekam Maha Kumbhabhishekam is a milestone in the lifetime of any Hindu Temple. It marks the re-consecration of the Temple in which the Temple’s spiritual and cosmic energy are renewed and refreshed as well as the sanctification of the Temple. This important activity has been prescribed by the Agama Sastras to be conducted every tweleve years. Observance of and participation in a Kumbhabhishekam have been equated with visiting and worshiping at a Temple for several hundred years. So, it is an auspicious event and we are fortunate that we have that happening in our Temple next year. The energies of the installed Dieties are temporarily transferred to the main Kalashas in an elaborate ritual. Pujas and Havans are performed to sanctify the holy water in the Kalashas representing the invocation of the energy and the renewal of the energy contained within. Havan (Homa, Yagna) is a fire ritual. The sacred Fire (Agni) is the primordial element that is all pervasive, all consuming and pure and carries our offerings to the God. Each day starts with a ceremonial prayer to and worship of Gow matha in whom all aishwaryas and mangalams reside. This is followed by havans to all Murthis. The rituals conclude with a Maha Poornahuthithe grand offering into the fire, after which the holy water in the more than 1000 Kalashas is poured over the Deities in the restoration of the energies. The celebrations conclude with Sri Ram-Sita & Sri Shiv- Parvathi Kalyan Utsavam. Cultural programs are also planned to offer our prayers by way of music, dance and Nama Sankirtan.
