FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Over the course of this first term one of our major goals at the school has been to provide a safe and secure environment for our stu-dents. This has included:
Teachers’ Professional Development cov-ering Duty of Care
Introduction of Classroom auditing
Introduction of an Occupational Health and Safety process
Introduction of a Critical Incident Protocol Revision of our Evacuation procedures
I have also indicated to the teachers that our policy regarding school excursions is - “No note – no go.” This refers to students’ participation on school excursions. No student will be allowed to participate in a school excursion without a signed parental permis-sion. The permission is provided as part of the information re-garding the excursion. A date for the return of the note is provid-ed. If the note is not provided by this date the student will not par-ticipate in the excursion. As you would understand there are legal reasons behind this poli-cy. However, it is also meant to respect parents’ rights to know where their child is during the school day and what they are doing. One of the most important relationships at Sri Utama is that between the parents and the teachers. We value this relation-ship and want to ensure that communica-tion is both clear and responsible. If any parent has a concern that they would like to raise with a teacher please contact the school to make an appointment to meet with the teacher. Please note – teachers have been directed not to use social me-dia such as “Whatsapp” to discuss school matters with parents. A personal meet-ing is far more effective and – personal. A reminder that we will be holding the School Sports Day on Saturday 14th March. All parents are invited and en-couraged to attend. I look forward to meeting you at the Sports Day.
The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “There are two blessings which many people do not make the most of; good health and free time for doing good..” ~ Narrated by Ibn ‘Abbas, narrated by Sahih Bukhaari, 76:421

AN EDUCATIONAL TRIP
BY: SAMYUKTHA P5A
My school organized a trip to Petrosains, library and Johor Zoo. Our teachers directed us to the bus. I went on a chatting with my friends in the bus. We took videos and photo in the bus. We arrived at Playsmart. We went in to the Petrosains and did some experiments. I like the buble show the most in Petrosains. It was fun and enjoyable. After that we went to the library. At the library, everyone drew a mouse. We got some goodies.
We went back to the bus and departed from Petrosains to Jo-hor Zoo. We were very excited to see the animals at the zoo. We saw three pelicans near a pond and also we saw some peacocks. We saw some bears. My friend threw a snack in to the chimpan-zee’s cage and the chimpanzee started to shout. We saw Ma-layan tigers and lions. I was very hungry so I bought some fruits.
I went on a pony ride and a boat ride. It was very fun and exciting. It was a hot day and I was very thirsty so I bought a coke. I saw a koala and many more.
I took some pictures of us and the animals at the zoo. I fed a camel. It was time to depart to school. We went back to the bus. I was preparing my speech at the school. We must tell about an animal at the zoo.
We arrived at school and had our lunch. After lunch, my friends and I were memorizing our speech. They started with the Lower Primary. The lower pri-mary must describe about the lizard. It was my turn to give speech. I got second prize. We received goodies again. I went back home and told my parents about the trip. It was a memora-ble day.

PRIMARY EDUCATION EXCURSION
On Thursday of last week our Primary students enjoyed an education
excursion that included the JB Zoo and Petrosains. The excursion was
intended to extend the students’ understanding of key concepts in Sci-
ence. At Petrosains, the students enjoyed excellent presentations by
the staff and were given opportunities to explore the interactive dis-
plays.
At the Johor Bahru, students
were able to see in real life the
many animals on display. Many
of the students are currently
studying “Living Things” in their
Science classes.
I would like to thank the excur-
sion organiser Mrs Sumati Bala-
krishnan for her professional
organisation of the event..
