SRI SATHYA SAIEASWARAMMA WOMEN’S WELFARE TRUST
NOVEMBER 2017
92 YEARS OF THE ADVENT
There is only one religion, the religion of Love;
There is only one language, the language of the Heart;
There is only one caste, the caste of Humanity;
There is only one law, the law of Karma;
There is only one God, He is Omnipresent.

SRI SATHYA SAIEASWARAMMA WOMEN’S WELFARE TRUST
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba inaugurated the Easwaramma Women’s Welfare
Project, devoted to the spiritual, moral and social uplift of all rural women, with
the dedication of a single plaque on November 19, 2004. Through His Grace, this
has blossomed into the Sri Sathya Sai Easwaramma Women’s Welfare Trust (SSSEWWT), a
non-profit organization, officially founded on February 18, 2005.
Bhagawan Baba acknowledges women as the very heart of the home and the backbone of
society. By helping women, the SSSEWWT can extend Swami’s healing touch to families,
children and communities.
The vision of the Trust was delineated in a letter from the managing Trustee. Commenting on
the work of the Trust, she wrote in part, “All these projects are gifts to us. From the moment
they were conceived, we have felt the love, joy and indomitable spirit of women every step of
the way. Women bring such beautiful gifts to the world through their openness, compassion
and wisdom. My prayer is that we will stop wasting time in being mundane and mediocre…
we are daughters of God – here to do His work.”

Prior to the start of the Easwaramma Trust, with Bhagawan’s Guidance, a small group
of Seva Dals from the Sri Sathya Sai organisation spent a year going out to the villages,
collecting data, doing needs assessment, visiting with elders and going to the homes of
women in need. The village elders guided this team as to what was required and what would
be acceptable to the local people. A roster of the women most urgently in need of help was
also compiled in this way. A modest proposal of uplift for the village women was presented
to Swami who, in his characteristically expansive fashion, enlarged the intention, and thus,
the Sri Sathya Sai Easwaramma Women’s Welfare Trust was born.
Under the auspices of the SSSEWWT, a multi-faceted program flourished which trained
village women in professional skills, in order to be self-sufficient. However, because of recent
legal changes to the regulations governing trusts in India, only the charitable work (medical
camps, sanitation, scholarships and charitable give-aways) continues with SSSEWWT. All
the other work, which is non-profit but nonetheless involves commercial activity incidental
to the training work, now comes under the umbrella of the new Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust
– Women’s Division. This includes the kitchen, tailoring, juice bar and water project.
All the projects are being executed as per the guidelines established by Bhagawan, “Love
All Serve All,” following the objectives of the Trust and strictly adhering to the Law of the
Nation. Starting with nine villages, today the Trust serves the needs of people in 138 villages.

The Trust has been sending out mobile medical teams to the villages every
month for the past decade. In the camps, the volunteer doctors (obstetricians
and paediatricians) give prenatal and post natal check-ups to pregnant women.
Paediatricians examine and treat newborns to children up to 12 years of age. Para
Medical staff assists the doctors in the camps.
Minor problems are treated in the camps; more serious problems, when identified, are
referred for medical treatment at the Sri Sathya Sai Hospitals.
“Instruct the women of the villages on the basic
principles of child health, child care and child training.
When health fails, people become despondent and even desperate.
When health prevails, vitality pervades both mind and body.”
Sri Sathya Sai Baba
The doctors, who come from all over India to offer their services at the medical camps,
also provide continuing education to the village women on nutrition, health, child care
and hygiene. Over the time that the Sri Sathya Sai Easwaramma Women’s Welfare Trust has
been running these camps, there has been a marked improvement in the health and body
weights of both mothers and infants.
Vitamin and mineral supplements are given out in the camps, along with a protein mix.
Medicines are given (free) to every patient. The medical camps are divided into two sections:
Obstetrics and Paediatrics.
