    SRIMAD RAMAYANAM

    Ones appearanceshould be pleasing anddelightful to the onlookers.Animals are wild and ferociousand are liked by some anddisliked by others whereas a

    human being should be asa:thwik and visualize the A:nandaSwaru:pa Bhagava:n in sarvabhu:tha:sand become pleasant for all people around.

    The sa:thwik-guna leads to bliss.The rajas gives rise to unhappiness andthe thamo:guna leads to grief and passion.If sathwa gunadominates in a person, hewill be always pleasing to all.SriRamachandra was pleasing not only tohuman beings but also to animals, trees

    and even demons.After Va:lis death, his wife Tha:ra,

    came to SriRama to accuse him for killingher husband but surprisingly her angercooled off on SriRamas darsan and shestarted praising Him:thvama prame:yascha dura:sadascha.

    Surpanakha whose nose and earswere cut off by Lakshmana went to herbrother Khara to complain about SriRamabut with her heart filled with glee at

    SriRamas darsan her intention wasforgotten and on the contrary starteddescribing his Divine beauty (saundaryam):

    So Ramachandra is a sadaikapriyadarsana. He had proved that a humanbeing should cultivate this feature. Every

    substance here consists of thethree qualities sathwam, rajas andthamas. If there is only sathwamwith no rajas or thamas thatperson is wonderful and pleasantalways. In all the things in thisuniverse, rajas or thamas wouldbe alternating and causing

    unhappiness or grief but they nevergive pleasure. But in SriRamachandra thereis only sathwam and there are no traces ofrajas, thamas, His darshan is just priyamfor all and forever and ever. His darshan is just priyam for all and forever and ever.Va:lmiki questioned , Who is a:thmava:n?

    This question can be interpreted intwo or three ways. A:thma means courage. Ifa person is unmoved even if confronted witha situation that could rob him of his mentalstability then we can say he is an a:thmava:n

    (brave). Kaike:yi: called SriRama who wasgetting ready for his coronation and informedhim about his banishment to forest. SriRamawas unperturbed. Even before pronouncing hisacceptence he agreed to her words at oncementally .

    The sight of Thataki or the fight withMa:ri:cha and Subaahu or his battle alonewith fourteen thousand ra:kshasa:s did notwaver him a bit and he stood steadfast. Thisreiterates his dhi:rathvam(wisdom).

    Parama:thma(Supreme Lord) is also

    A:thmava:n. He has all these a:thma:s asinseparable amsa:s (sub-units) for him.Athma:s never leave and stay away fromBhagava:n. So all the athma:s are His'vise:shanams' (attributes) and He is thevise:shyam (the subject). Bhagava:n ownsall the a:thma:s and hence He isA:thmava:n.
