Monday, April 16: Depart Melbourne this morning for our trip to the elegant cityof Charleston. The charm of the area is due in large part to the historically telling

architecture of the stately homes and businesses which pay tribute to a bygone era.

The city is enveloped in a romantic air giving us a glimpse of what once was, while

still offering a chance to experience a contemporary and lively place at a

comfortable pace. Soak in Charlestons unforgettable natural beauty and be

embraced by her warmth and Southern hospitality. Enjoy the fun-filled motorcoachride, with a stop for lunch on your own. Upon arrival in Charleston, the lovely

Hampton Inn welcomes us for the next three nights. The hotel is located directly

across from the Visitor Reception Center at the north end of the historic district.

The newly updated center is considered an attraction in itself and is a wealth of

information. After freshening up, were off to enjoy a delightful dinner at a popular

    restaurant close by. (D)

Tuesday, April 17: Following breakfast, start the day by exploring the beautifulhistoric district with a comprehensive walking tour in the company of an

experienced guide. Discover hidden alleys, feel the breeze from the harbor, and

hear local stories not printed in history books. Spend the remainder of theafternoon strolling the streets visiting museums, churches, attractions and shops at

your leisure. Or take a side trip available through a local tour company to

experience other historical sights, such as Fort Sumter National Monument in

Charleston Harbor or Patriots Point Naval Museum in Mt. Pleasant, featuring the

aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown. For your convenience lunch is on your own, but

save some room for a delicious dinner aboard the Spirit of Carolina on our three

hour harbor cruise this evening, complete with entertainment and dancing. (B, D)

Wednesday, April 18: Today we venture to Magnolia Plantation. Experiencehistory and wildlife on the tram ride through the plantations wetlands, lakes, forests

and marshes. From a row of slave cabins to 19th century rice ponds and a Native American ceremonial mound, the tour will bring life to the true landscape and

culture of the old South. Then step back in time with a guided tour of the Drayton

family home, offering a glimpse of plantation life in the 19th century, and immerse

yourself in the incredible beauty of the world-renowned gardens with its variety of

flowers and plants in full spring bloom. Lunch is included en-route to the

Charleston Tea Plantation, home of the American Classic Tea, the only tea grown

and produced in America. The plantation is located on picturesque Wadmalaw

Island in the heart of the Lowcountry. Enjoy a scenic narrated trolley ride around

the 127 acre farm followed by an informative factory tour. Upon return to

downtown Charleston in the late afternoon, the remainder of the day is free to relax

or continue exploring the area. Dinner is on your own with several delightfulrestaurants to choose from in the historic district. (B, L)

Thursday, April 19: This morning we check out of the hotel after breakfast andbid a fond farewell to Charleston. A stop will be made for lunch on your own en-

route. Your delightful journey concludes with an anticipated early evening arrival in
