Video Assignment #1(50 points): Shoot 3 man-on-the-street interviews on a topic of news value.Must be a social or policy issue where people
have different opinions (such as: Who are youvoting for for president and why?). No interviewshould be more than 1 minute (aim for that atleast), but youll turn in the unedited interviewsfor grading. Upload them to the blog, all in onepost. Im looking for how well the shot wasframed and lit, as well as whether the content isengaging. Name the post: Your Name Man onthe Street

Preparing for a Shoot
Adam Ellick: i did a 3 hour print interview the firsttime i met the main guy. that gave me the widefoundation to decide how to craft the vid
narrative. then we met up when thingshappened to him- like the embassy fundingscene. it also took several days without thecamera with get permission to talk to the girls.we had to go through their grandfather, whowas cool, but still lives according to localcustoms. so it was basically a part time projectfor a month. some weeks less than a hour. otherweeks, 3-5 days.

What Are Final Projects?
The goal of this project is to produce amultimedia piece that you will be proud to showfuture employers. That means that it needs to be
as professional and as compelling as possible forthat reason, above all else.

Most projects will be either a video or an audioslideshow. If you want to do an audio-onlyproject, it might be possible, but it has to be
cleared with me first.

42/47
There is no set length for the final project, but most willgenerally run between 2:00 and 4:00 minutes.
Your final project will be a work of journalism. That is, itwill tell a story, (ideally a compelling story) not simplydocument an event, just as we have been talkingabout all semester. I'll be looking for a hook and astory arc. I'll also be looking to see that you'vefollowed all of the composition and technical
guidelines we've covered. There will be significantpenalty for late work.

Do not use music in your project unless you clearit with me first. You can use "found footage" if ithelps tell your story, providing it does not violate
copyright laws. In other words, if you are profilinga student band, you can use a short clip fromtheir music video if they give you permission todo that. Such footage cannot make up morethan 15 percent of the running time of yourpiece. (Most projects don't have such footage,
but it's an option.)
