DRAMA CLUB THE NEWSLETTER FOR CREATION DRAMA CLUBBERS | www.creationtheatre.co.uk 2 3 4 Final shows information Welcome Emily What we’ve been up to NEWS SPRING 2015 Coming up at Creation... 2015 is shaping up to be a cracking year for Creation. We’ve got even more than normal going on, and obviously we’ve got lots for our Drama Clubbers to get their teeth into. We started the year with the last few performances of our Christmas production, The Wind in the Willows . Twelve Drama Clubbers made up our Youth Chorus and we were blown away by how fantastic they were (plus Daily Info called them “charming” so its not just us!). Some of our Drama Clubbers volunteered as ushers too, helping make the Christmas show run smoothly and successfully. We’re returning to comedy this summer, with our production of As You Like It , taking place in the gorgeous grounds of Lady Margaret Hall in July and August. Once again, we’ll be having a special family show on the Bank Holiday Monday, where kids go free! And if you’re so organised that you’re thinking about Christmas already we’ll be taking to the high seas for a new version of Treasure Island that will feature much of the Willows ’ creative team - more on page 3. With our Drama Clubbers taking on some phenomanal stories this term, we know that 2015 is going to be one of Creation’s best yet. WELCOME EMILYWe’re super thrilled to welcome Emily Butler to our Education team this term. Emily graduated from East 15 Acting School with a BA(Hons) in Acting and Community Theatre. Since graduating in 2013, she has worked for a variety of theatre companies and schools performing and leading workshops in film, theatre and dance.

As well as Creation Emily has worked for Greenwich and Lewisham’s Young People’s Theatre, OYAP Trust, Pegasus Theatre and Age Ex-change. Emily also works as a professional actor. She has performed with the Royal Opera House, Kazzum, Touchpoint Theatre and regularly with the London based improvisation company A Drunken Sailor Plays Back. From the moment we met her we knew Emily would fit in perfectly at Drama Club and Workshops, bringing her professional training and experience and her bubbly personality to every session.

GET INVOLVED

Maybe you’d like to see more theatre for free, maybe you might like to work in the industry one day, maybe it’s just a reason to get out of the house! Whatever the motivation, ushering at Creation shows is great fun and excellent work experience. We’re always looking for ushers to muck in with seating the audience, selling merchandise and generally helping out at performances. We know lots of our Drama Clubbers are too young for this at the minute, but if you’re 15+ email [email protected] and we’ll add you to the list, and if you’re not quite there yet why not pop it in the diary!

TREASURE ISLAND

It may be early days, but we’re already so excited about our 2015 Christmas production, Treasure Island. Creation will be taking on Robert

Louis Stevenson’s classic with our usual style and aplomb, and we can’t wait to see it!

Once again, our Christmas show will also have a Youth Chorus, made up of some of our Drama Clubbers. Auditions won’t be happening until the Autumn, so watch this space.

4 CREATION NEWS | SPRING 2015

5-7s at Headington Baptist Church

Taking Stories that Inspired Shakespeare as a starting point this group will present a high-energy version of The Hill of Roses - a source for Romeo and Juliet.

Here’s what to look forward to...

OXFORD SHAKESPEARE ENSEMBLE trading as CREATION THEATRE COMPANY (a not for profit organisation limited by guarantee) Co Reg No: 06135973 | Reg Charity No: 1119379

5-7s at Leckford Place

Expect some pirate puppetry and a musical sequence as one of our littlest groups heads out on an epic voyage of discovery in Treasure Island.

8-10s at Leckford Place 9:30am

This group have been taking their time over Around the World in 80 Days, working on movement sections and finding some jokes along the way.

8-10s at Leckford Place 10:30am

The group have been looking at the gothic side of life, as they bring some of Edgar Allan Poe’s darkest stories to the stage using masks and object work to build suspense.

8-10s at Leckford Place 1:30pm

The 8-10s have been pooling their international knowledge to recreate Jules Vernes’ Around the World in 80 Days - keep your eyes peeled for some yoga.

8-10s at Headington Baptist Church

Two of our 8-10s have taken on the role of Musical Director for their version of The Selfish Giant - expect some songs and ensemble movement sections.

8-10s at Magdalen College School

Some new faces have joined this quickly expanding group which is making the most of the comic moments in Romeo and Juliet.

11-13s at Leckford Place 3:30pm

This group’s The Hounds of the Baskervilles has seen them polishing up their stagecraft with Josh and taking on a character masterclass with Andy.

11-13s at Leckford Place 11:30am

The group are taking on Baker Street’s most famous resident as they tackle hounds, detectives and murder most foul. They’re taking on a complex script and characters very different from their own.

11-13s at Headington Baptist Church

Taking a more light-hearted approach than last term, this group are playing up the playful side of The Hound of the Baskervilles.

14-16s at Magdalen College School

Set around a dinner table, this version of Agatha Christie’s Cards on the Table features scenes directed by different members of the group combining scripted and devised work.

14-16s at Headington Baptist Church

Mostly cutting the part of Richard himself this group will tell the tale of Richard III using selected significant objects and strong chorus work.

14-16s at John Mason School

Inspired by Agatha Christie’s Black Coffee this group will use the improvisation techniques they’ve been learning to create a brand new murder mystery!

There’s quite a noir note in Drama Club’s line up this term. From Edgar Allan Poe to Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, there’s a lot of crime and mystery! There’s also feuding families, England’s most infamous king, and a trip around the world...

8-10s at John Mason School

This group has been getting to grips with the themes and morals of The Secret Garden through voice work and characterisation techniques.

11-13s at John Mason School

This Peter Pan features the seamingly impossible fusion of comedy, pantomime and realism - one that must be seen to be believed!
