Our commitment to creating the best possible living environment does not stop at the design and build of our homes. We also place a great deal of emphasis on the wider environment.
We appreciate the importance of green space and will always look to enhance the natural environment through beautiful landscaping design and the preservation of protected areas.
For every apartment we build, we fund the planting of 10 native trees, and for every house, we plant 20. The trees are planted in some of the Woodland Trust’s 1,000 woods and we are proud to support them in their mission to double the amount of native woodland covering the UK.
From the procurement of energy efficient and sustainable materials, to the use of thermal efficient methods of build and effective disposal of waste, our team works hard to ensure that we minimise the environmental impact of our operations without compromising on quality. Our partnership with the National Community Wood Recycling Project is also enabling us to further reduce our landfill usage and increase the volume of waste being re-used, re-sold or recycled.

As well as building communities, we are also extremely proud to support those most in need within those communities via the Shanly Foundation.
Financed entirely by the profits generated by the Shanly Group of companies, the Foundation receives in excess of 700 funding applications annually. Our Board of Trustees meet monthly and consider each and every application. This ensures that funding is appropriately allocated to help local community groups and charitable organisations to support and improve the quality of life for those most in need across our communities. Since 1969 the Shanly Group and Shanly Foundation has contributed in excess of £20m to charitable causes.
We are also committed to making life easier for the wildlife living within our natural habitats and we fit bird boxes in gardens and communal areas and bee bricks to our new homes. We provide ongoing financial support to Freshwater Habitats Trust which aims to protect and preserve freshwater life for everyone to enjoy.
In addition, we pay for a year-long RSPB subscription for our new homes customers which enables them to visit any RSPB centre in the UK free-of-charge and receive newsletters and updates.

2019 marks Shanly Group’s 50th anniversary. This year we have partnered with the University of Reading and will be holding an exciting exhibition “50 years of property” in September, showcasing the changing face of property. We are sponsoring a number of lectures held throughout the year, the annual student structure and supporting a student award, as well as providing members of Team Shanly to mentor students in relevant disciplines. We would like to encourage more young people to develop a career in the property industry and hope our partnership will inspire the architects, estate managers, construction directors and builders of tomorrow.
2019 also marks the point at which we have donated a total of £500,000 to the Woodland Trust through our ongoing partnership with them and will be celebrating this milestone by offering tree planting days out to our staff.
The Shanly Group has donated £1.51 million to the Shanly Foundation for 2019 charity awards and this year the Foundation will be donating £55,000 to seventeen additional charities as chosen by our staff, customers and tenants. In July, the Shanly Foundation will also be hosting a marquee for charities that are close to our heart at the annual Thames Traditional Boat Festival in Henley.
