Safety & SecurityFacility UsageEach individual must stop to scan in at the welcome center to gain access to the facility. If you do not have a card, please see a Member Service Representative to reissue you another. Please use upon each visit.Children age 10yrs and under must be supervised at all times. Kidz Korner is available for $3 for 2 hours per child.

Guest PolicyAnnual memberships of young adult, adult, single parent family and family are alotted 5 free guest passes a year. When bringing a guest we ask the following:Member must accompany their guest to the facilityMember must be age 18 or older to sign in a guest.When bringing a guest under the age of 18, the adult must stay on the premises during their time at the Y.Guests are NOT permitted on short-term memberships. New Jersey YMCA Reciprocal MembershipYour reciprocal membership entitles you, as a Somerset Hills YMCA member, to work out at another Y 5 times per month!The reciprocal membership allows you access to a variety of member amenities at each location, including wellness center,swimming pools and certain fitness classes, basketball court etc. The reciprocal membership agreement does not include

facility member discounts on programs. You may register for programs at participating Ys at non-member rates.Members must maintain a current membership at their home Y to be eligible for this program.

Ys will regularly verify that your home membership/dues are current.

IMPORTANT DATES & NOTES FOR ALL REGISTRANTS:

• All registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. • Individuals must use our online system to register. If you have previously registered through our online system, your User ID and Password are already set up. • Your current email must always be on record with the YMCA for your ease in registering and receiving your registration confirmation. • If you need to update your email, please do so prior to the start of registration by contacting Karen DiGiovanni at (908)630-3528 or e-mailing: [email protected]. • If you already have an account set up but have forgotten or misplaced your login and password, you may click “Retrieve Login” and type in your email address. Your login and password will be sent to you via email. • We encourage people to familiarize themselves with the online registration offerings and process prior to registration day. Please visit our website to review a detailed description of the courses, registration process, class availability, to check your account, or to make a payment (including E-Pay credit card/bank draft payments). Please view the “Registration FAQs” section under programs to find directions on how to register for programs using your online credit. • If you are a first-time registrant, you must first set up your account in order to get a User ID and password.

Class Refund/Credit Policy: • Requests for a credit of your class fee must be submitted in writing on a Credit Request Form (available at the Welcome Centers) prior to the start of the third week of the program session. • Please note that after Week 2 of the class session, credits will be issued for medical reasons only (requests must be accompanied by a Doctor’s note). • Credits will be pro-rated based on the number of classes attended. A $5.00 processing fee will be charged if you change or drop a class, unless the change is due at the request or need of the YMCA. • For details on this policy and how to access your online credit, please go to our website. • Credits or refunds are not given for closings due to weather or emergency situations.

You may also receive updates by visiting our website at www.somersethillsymca.org. During our winter season we will make every effort to remain open. However, we do want to make sure that all our members and staff remain safe during any inclement weather situation and reserve the right to delay our opening or close the facility when deemed necessary. If we choose to delay the opening or close the facility, we will make that decision by 4:00 a.m. Monday-Friday,and by 5:00 a.m. on the weekends.

YMCA Adventure Guides*This program is for children and their fathers or their male role models. Children must be in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The purpose of this program is to strengthen the father-child bond. Each month, father-child pairs meet in small groups called “circles” for games, crafts, and refreshments. “Expedition events” are opento all participants of the program and may include campouts,museum overnights, dad/daughter dances, sporting events, and more! The Adventure Guides also sponsor a Food Drive in the falland special evenings such as Santa’s visit to the Y on a firetruck, rollerblading parties and other fun events. Returning memberregistration will take place May 1-June 1, 2012. All returningmembers must be registered by September 1st or they willnot be able to participate in the fall campouts. New memberregistration will take place in early September. There will be anAdventure Guides Kick-off Party on September 9 from 1-4pmin the Y Teen Center. Y Trail Program*Trail Blazers – fathers and sons grades 4-8thTrail Mates – fathers and daughters grades 4-8thThis is an exciting and challenging program for fathers and their older children. In the fall of 2011, the Trail Mates went white water rafting on the Lehigh River. While the Trail Blazers went winter camping at Frost Valley, the Trail Mates went for a ski weekendat Sno Mountain in Scranton, PA. This spring the Trail Mates will be going on an overnight horseback riding and tent camping trip in Hawley, PA and the Trail Blazers will be weekend camping at a New York YMCA Camp in Greenville, NY. In addition to these activities, members of the Y Trail Program are invited to participate in someof the open Adventure Guides activities such as the RinglingBrothers Circus in March.

$25 per person or $50 dad/child

Focus skills will be presented weekly.

gymnasticsYOUTH PROGRESSIVE CLASSES

Tumbling Ages 5+yrsTumbling classes include strength conditioning, Tumble Trak, and spring floor. If unsure about placement regarding your child, please schedule an evaluation or speak to a coach. Instructor will have final decision on proper placement levels for all students. Beginner – Tumbling for the novice gymnast and cheerleader. Intermediate – Master cartwheels, power hurdle round-offs, back bends, front and back walkovers, front handsprings and more. Advanced – (Teacher recommendation required) Students learn multiple connections, variations, front and back tumbling, with a focus on proper form and safety.

Roller Ages 5+yrs (Level I)This one hour co-ed class includes basic gymnastics instruction, proper form and safety skills on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, Tumble Trak and floor exercise.

Swinger Ages 5+yrs (Level II)This one hour co-ed class is for our students who have mastered the basics including; vault: squat & straddle on; uneven bars: pullover & back hip circle; balance beam: forward & backward rolls; floor: cartwheel, handstand, forward & backward rolls. Introduction to small connections using low-medium vault, bars, beam and floor will be taught.

Kipper Ages 6+yrs (Level III)Evaluation RecommendedIntroduction to advanced connections using high beams, bar, vault, and floor. Students must be able to vault: handstand; uneven bars: glide swing, counter swing; balance beam: cartwheel handstand & learning dismounts; floor: back walkover, leaps & jumps.

Flyer Ages 6+yrs (Level IV)Evaluation RecommendedIntroduction to advanced connections using high beams, bar, vault, and floor. Students must be able to vault: handstand; uneven bars: glide swing, counter swing; balance beam: cartwheel, handstand, learning dismounts; floor: back walkover, leaps & jumps.

Sibling Gymnastics Ages 1-7yrsThis one hour class is for families with two or more children to take gymnastics class together. Youngest children must be at leastproficient at walking. Emphasis is on getting children comfortable with using the gymnastics equipment and being in the Gymnastics Center. Socialization and safety are important components.Children must be accompanied by an adult parent/guardian whowill be expected to participate and interact as part of the class.

PRESCHOOL PROGRESSIVE CLASSES

Tumbling Twos Ages 2-3yrsThis class is for the independent child who is ready to tumble.Emphasis will be on learning social skills, body awareness,flexibility, safety knowledge and listening skills all while having FUN!

Intro to Acro Ages 3-5yrsDuring this 45 minute class, children are introduced and taught numerous acrobatic skills. By the end of the year, students will demonstrate a complete routine of tumbling to music.

Jumper Jr. Ages 3-4yrs(Must be 3 before the first class and be potty trained)This is the perfect class for first time participants to spread their wings. Each week class will begin with a group warm-upand stretch, then participants will rotate through 2-3 preschool events with progression towards new skills. Developing listening skills and safety awareness is a prime goal of this class.

Jumper I Ages 3 ½-4yrsThe perfect next step for our students who have graduated from our Jumper Jr. program and are ready to continue building on the basics they have already mastered.

Jumper II (Must be 4 by first class)Participants must be able to follow circuits, perform basic gymnas-tics skills, and be ready to work on bridges, cartwheels and hand-stands.

Jumper III This class is the perfect environment for our 4 year old participants who have already mastered the basics in Jumper II. Students will be introduced to a more challenging gymnastics environment while still having lots of fun.

Somerset Hills YMCA Cheerleading Coaches are USAG Safety Certified, trained to spot stunts appropriately, and experienced in coaching cheerleading and gymnastics. The Cheerleading program follows a progressive approach (similar to gymnastics) whereby participants do not progress to the next level stunt unless having demonstrated proficiency in skills that are appropriate for their age and ability.

Mr. Jimerfield, Corporal, Alaska State Troopers (retired), is a twenty-seven year veteran police officer, devoting the last seven years as an instructor at the Public Safety Training Academy in Sitka, Alaska. While there, Mr. Jimerfield developed his One-on-One Control Tactics System, which is now being taught throughout the United States, as well as in Germany, Austria, Montenegro, Canada, Trinidad & Tobago West Indies and is being use in the Netherlands.

He has earned Advanced Certificates and Instructor/Trainer Certifi-cates with Alaska Police Standards Council and has the distinction of being the only Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor/Trainer in the State. He is currently a traveling trainer for The Alaska Police Stan-dards Council.

He holds a 10th degree black belt in Taiho Jitsu, 8th degree in Judo and a 5th degree in Karate. In July 2006 Mr. Jimerfield was inducted into the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Man of the Year Law Enforcement. Mr. Jimerfield has authored two books on his control tactics. His system is not marketed commercially and is only available through seminars and word of mouth. His books are only available through Calibre press and his website. Mr. Jimerfield feels this is the best street system of control for Police Officers.

If the weather is wet or icy we will hike instead of bike. Grab your bike and join us for scenic bike rides past meadows and farms, occasionally even “rail trails” or canal paths. We live in an amaz-ing place for scenic cycling on the back roads of NJ & PA. Bike rides offered will range from road bike rides to mountain bike “off-road” rides. Distance, levels and terrain will vary. Some introductory rides will be offered along with intermediate and more advanced rides. The Cardiac Care Wellness Program This is a Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and Risk Factor Reduction Program. It is designed for individuals with heart disease and/or individuals with risk factors that could lead to heart disease. A strength/fitness program for cancer patients and survivors based on the curriculum developed by Stanford University. LIVESTRONG™ at the YMCA is a twelve week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. The program is offered with no cost to the participants. Our goal is to help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes, and improving energy levels and self esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle, not only as part of their recovery, but as a way of life. Family and Open SwimChildren UNDER 7 yrs of age and UNDER 48 inches tall must be with an adult who is wearing appropriate swim attire and in the water within arms’ reach of the child at all times, including in the zero-entry play area of the Stoddard pool.

Children ages 7-11 must be supervised by an adult in the pool area at all times.

Only US Coast Guard approved floatation devices are allowed during Family and Open swim. Lifejackets are available for member use.

Participants 17 and under will be required to take a “Deep Water Ready” test to swim in the deep end.

Stoddard Water SlidesRiders must be at least 48 inches tall. For safety reasons, there will be no exceptions to this rule.

Masters Swim Program Make swimming more than just going back and forth. Masters offers coached workouts geared toward swimmers who have a desire to do interval training and are looking for a more social swimming experience. Perfect for the seasoned lap swimmerwho is looking for the camaraderie of a group workout, thetriathlete who wants to improve their swimming endurance, or the “retired” competitive swimmer looking for motivation to get back into the pool. Opportunities are available to compete in local Masters swim meets for those interested, no previous experience required. Swim Team Ages 7-18yrsA member of the Northern New Jersey YMCA Swim League, the Somerset Hills YMCA Swim Team competes year round in both YMCA and USA sanctioned swimming events. With 250 swim-mers between the ages of 7 and 18, each swimmer is placed in one of our progressive practice groups based upon age and coaches’ evaluation. The primary season runs from September through March providing each swimmer with the opportunity to compete on a dual meet team and participate in Championship meets. Mental Health First AidMental Health First Aid is offered in the form of an interactive 12 hour course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in the U.S. and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments.
