The film opens in England in 1935, on the hottest day of the year. In the looming

shadow of World War II, Briony Tallis and her family live a life of wealth and

privilege in their enormous Victorian Gothic mansion. As the family gathers for

the weekend the combination of the oppressive heat and long suppressed emotions

coming to the surface create an ominous sense of threat and danger. Briony, a

fledgling writer, is a girl with a vivid imagination. Through a series of catastrophic

misunderstandings she accuses Robbie Turner, the housekeeper’s son and lover of

her sister Cecilia, of a crime he did not commit. This accusation destroys Robbie

and Cecilia’s new found love and dramatically alters the course of all their lives.

Fill in your details below and hand them back to Belvoir Fruit Farms tent before

the interval to be entered into a free prize draw to win a pair of tickets to the

West End premiere or one of five copies of the novel. Please check out the board

in front of the Belvoir tent during the interval to see if you have won.

All the remaining tickets will be entered into a draw to win a wonderful two

night break at Middlethorpe Hall, York, North Yorkshire. Middlethorpe Hall is

a William III country house, close to the historic city of York and set in 20 acres

of manicured gardens and parkland. Built in 1699, it was once the home of

the famous diarist Lady Mary Wortley-Montagu and today offers tranquility

and luxury away from the rush of daily life. For more information visit

Elizabeth Inchbald’s only tragedy is given its premiere more than two hundred years after it was written. The play is inspired by the horrific events of the French Revolution and is a bloody exploration of war and the questions of justice, mercy and retribution that arise in its aftermath.

Nitesh Magdani (chair)Associate, Aukett Fitzroy Robinson architectsNitesh Magdani is an Associate at Aukett Fitzroy Robinson, an architectural practice committed to sustainable design and development. He was the lead designer for the Adnams project in Reydon, where environmentally friendly building materials and techniques have been implemented to enhance the local environment. Current projects involve developing concept sustainable retail environments and also mixed use sustainable developments. Nitesh has a keen interest in ‘green’ architecture, and his role within the company is to coordinate and help reinforce the low energy principles prevalent in many of the current and future projects.Karen Hester

Operations Director, Adnams plc Karen Hester is married with two children, lives in Suffolk and is a serving magistrate. As Operations Director for Adnams brewery she holds direct responsibility for driving fi rst class performance of brand quality in production through to logistics and customer service teams. Last year Karen delivered a project to move

teams to a new distribution centre in Reydon, Suffolk. This green building demonstrates Adnams’ values and won the company the sustainable client of the year award at the national Building Awards. It has the largest curved green roof in the UK, glulam beams from sustainable forests, lime hemp blocks and a rain water harvesting system amongst many other features.Bob TomlinsonDirector and founder of Living VillagesBob Tomlinson has a career ranging from professional explorer and documentary maker to his latest and most successful incarnation as the creator of Living Villages. Bob has always been fascinated by what makes living spaces work, and spent a year working in an architect’s offi ce before becoming disillusioned with the type of houses and estates being churned out and running away to sea. But it was when he was working on a documentary about sustainability that he was inspired to design a modern, ecologically-sound ‘living village’. From the fi rst ‘visionary’ sketch The Living Village Trust was established. Living Villages (Bishop’s Castle) Ltd was then created as a development company, and in

1999 building work began on the 40-house eco-neighbourhood, The Wintles. Living Villages now has a proven track record of developing in a way that encourages good neighbourliness and a real sense of place, as well as using building techniques that minimise harm to the environment. The Living Village brand is becoming increasingly well-known within the industry, and Bob is often quoted in the press as a leading light in residential sustainability.Peter Dow Parish Clerk, Elmswell Parish CouncilPeter Dow has served for many years on Elmswell Parish Council as Chairman, Chairman of the Planning Committee and currently as Parish Clerk. He played a signifi cant role in the village’s Housing Needs Survey which served to confi rm the received wisdom – the houses being built in this expanding, otherwise ‘sustainable’, community are beyond the reasonable economic reach of the sons and daughters of that community. Elmswell was at the forefront in consultations towards the eventual ratifi cation of the Mid Suffolk District Council Affordable Housing Policy, unfortunately too late to be applied to large infi ll developments in the village. The Parish Council has, therefore, welcomed the Claypit Field initiative adjacent to its Thedwastre Close playing fi eld.

Keith Moore Planning Liaison Adviser, Environment AgencyKeith joined the Environment Agency in 2004, he has been the Planning Liaison Team Leader since the end of 2005. The Planning Liaison Team covers a large geographic area stretching from the North Norfolk coast to the Thames Gateway which contains 27 local authorities. The team is responsible for co-ordinating Environment Agency responses to all planning and pre-planning consultations which fall within the remit of the organisation.

2. Sustainable building and developmentBuildings directly create over 40% of our carbon emissions – and whether housing, offi ces,

new-build or existing buildings, they could be creating a lot less. This session will cover how to

commission, renovate and use buildings more sustainably, including housing (private, social,

tourist accommodation), community buildings and historic refurbishments.

Biodiversity. Natural England (formed in October 2006 by the merging of English Nature, the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Service) is here to conserve and enhance the natural environment, for its intrinsic value, the well-being and enjoyment of people and the economic prosperity that it brings.Julian RoughtonChief Executive, Suffolk Wildlife TrustJulian fi rst came to Suffolk in 1985 as a student conservation volunteer. He was formerly regional manager for the Woodland Trust and has been Chief Executive of Suffolk Wildlife Trust since 1999. Suffolk Wildlife Trust has over 23,000 members, manages nearly 6,000 acres of Suffolk’s best wildlife habitats and has an active environmental education programme at its four education centres. The Trust is dedicated to creating landscapes rich in wildlife and, with this in mind, advises communities, landowners and individuals.John Cousins

Head of Agriculture for the Wildlife Trusts and chair of Tastes of Anglia John Cousins is a Land Agent by profession and has worked in the area of land management all his life. He farms in Suffolk on a medium sized family farm with arable, sheep and pigs. His present role as Head of Agricultural Policy for The Wildlife Trusts UK involves John in policy matters relating to farming, particularly with regard to the environment and to green production methods. John also manages the Thornham Estate

in North Suffolk, a traditional Estate with a large education centre and extensive public access. John is a former Chairman of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and the Suffolk Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group. Giles BrockmanOperations and development manager for the Forestry CommissionGiles’s 19 year career within the Forestry Commission has taken him through a variety of roles including land manager and researcher to recreation manager and project planner. The Forestry Commission is a signifi cant landowner in Suffolk and the forests contribute to the regional community in many ways. It has now entered an era of daring to think and act differently. A fl agship project at Dunwich Forest has redesigned a pine plantation to fi t better into its landscape, improving its contribution to the biodiversity network in that area. They wish to use this as a catalyst to encourage neighbouring boundaries to blend in with theirs to create landscapes without barriers whilst continuing to balance out competing demands.

3. Landscapes and biodiversitySuffolk is famous for its landscapes, and they also contain important economic resources in

agriculture and tourism. Climate change will have a dramatic effect on this and land managers,

farmers and businesses need to adapt. This session will highlight some of the initiatives that aim to

address this, and the implications and opportunities for landowners, including rewilding, fl ood risk

prevention and managed retreat, managing for biodiversity, and community landscape projects.
