what you need to knowWelcome! At Northeastern, orientation is more than campus tours and registration; it’s a crash course on life as a Husky. It’s a chance to get acquainted with your college and meet your academic advisor. It’s a sneak peek into the array of exciting experiential learning opportunities ahead of you. It’s your launching pad for forming friendships that will last a lifetime. It’s Husky 101.

what Freshman stuDents need to knowIt is mandatory for all freshman students to attend orientation. You’ll meet fellow students and learn your way around campus. You’ll get important information about your college and major, and learn more about co-op and experiential learning opportunities. You’ll also have a chance to explore Boston, the ultimate college town.

what internatiOnal stuDents need to knowIt is mandatory for all new international students to attend the New Student Orientation session. International students will also take part in a comprehensive introduction program hosted by the International Student and Scholar Institute (ISSI). ISSI Orientation offers events and activities designed to help international students transition to the Northeastern community. International students will get to meet one another, learn about others’ experiences, finding assistance with getting settled, and learn about the culture and history of the United States.

what transFer stuDents need to knowIt is mandatory for all transfer students to attend orientation. At your session, you will meet your academic advisor, register for classes, hear from University departments, and get acquainted with faculty and staff. You’ll also meet current Northeastern students as well as other new transfer students.

what Families need to knowOrientation isn’t just for students. Parents and families of Northeastern’s new students are invited to participate in the Parent and Family Program, a separate but simultaneous session. It’s designed to introduce families to the academics and community at Northeastern. You’ll meet campus administrators and faculty members, learn about campus services, and see firsthand the University resources available to new students. New Student Orientation includes the complimentary participation of two guests, with meals. There are additional costs for additional guests. pre-registration is required for all guests – visit northeastern.edu/orientation for details.

The Husky dog has been Northeastern’s mascot since 1927, when the University’s very first Husky arrived at Boston’s North Station by train from Alaska. Classes at Northeastern were canceled for the afternoon and King Husky was greeted by more than 1,000 students and the University band.
