Things to do in Barcelona this Spring: Primavera Sound Festival
Are you a music junkie? Always looking for the latest and
greatest beats from around the world? Then Barcelona’s own,
Primavera Sound Festival is for you. This year, the festival
will begin on May 30th and will run for 5 days. With over 130
artists performing, and headliners such as Franz Ferdinand
and The Cure, you can’t miss this incredible musical
celebration! Grab your tickets online now, and party for the
entire festival, or just the day of your choice! Picnic anyone?
The perfect place to spend a lovely spring day, Parc de la
Ciutadella has it all. During the warmer days in
Barcelona, people of all ages can be seen running,
walking, sunbathing, picnicking, and playing games in this
green haven amongst the hustle and bustle of Barcelona’s
city center. Besides being home to some lush vegetation
and immense grassy plains, there is a lake where you can
rent a rowboat, and an abundance of statues and fountains.
The park also houses the Barcelona Zoo, great for
families visiting the city with kids!
From late winter and into spring, the people of Barcelona
ready their stomachs for one of the most delicious Catalan
foods yet: calçots. Similar to a leek or a scallion, these
delectable veggies are typically served char-grilled and
dipped in a special romesco sauce, then dropped into the
mouth in a sword-swallowing fashion. There are many
feast-style festivals called calçotadas taking place during
spring in Barcelona, where you can sit back, relax and
indulge in these Catalan delicacies.

Barcelona by bike Barcelona has so much to offer, it’s often hard to get to it all in just a
couple of days. That is, if you’re walking! This spring, take advantage
of the lovely Barcelona weather, and hit the bikes instead! Biking
around the city is convenient, environmentally friendly, healthy, and
just good fun! If you’re feeling adventurous, grab a map and a bike
from one of the many rental shops in the city, and set out on your own
path. Still don’t know Barcelona yet? A bike tour is great way to get
around the city, learn cool facts about its history, and see how to get
from one area to the next. This spring, take some time to soak up the
sun while getting a great work out, pedaling all across town. You won’t
be sorry you decided not to take the metro!
Magical Monserrat Just short of an hour north of Barcelona, you will find Montserrat:
a beautiful mountain town that is home to one of the most important
monasteries in Spain, the Benedict Abbey of Santa Maria
de Montserrat. Visiting the town makes for an interesting day out
and is particularly enjoyable during the warm days of spring. If you
are a fan of walking or hiking, there are plenty of different trails
leading you to spectacular vantage points on the mountain, where
you can see the amazing views of Barcelona.
Semana Santa, or holy week, is the week of Easter celebrated
throughout various parts of the world. Catalans enjoy the holiday
complete with parades and processions, delicious chocolates and
desserts and traditional costumes. Some things to look forward to
during your visit include the Mona de Pascua cake, salted cod,
and “El Paso de La Borriquita.” The Mona de Pascua is the most
customary food found in Barcelona during Easter. It is a sweet
cake made with chocolates and it can be found all over the city.
Besides these treats, Barcelona hosts many Easter parades
including “El Paso de la Borriquita,” which commemorates the
arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem on donkey. With the warm spring
weather creeping in and interesting traditions around every
corner, Semana Santa makes for the perfect week for you to
escape to Barcelona this spring.
