Gisborne Primary School 2nd September 2021 No. 28 CHALK TALK Diary Dates 2021 TERM THREE SEPTEMBER 2021 *Frid 17th Sept Last day Term 3 2.30pm finish PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Effective Remote and Flexible Learning I have no firm news regarding the return to school for Victoria students. In our briefing with David Howes, he spoke about providing clarity and certaintyin announcing that Victorian students will stay in remote and flexible learning for the remainder of the term. This gives our teachers the opportunity to do some longer- term planning for a differentiated online program for all students. Please continue to liaise with your childs teacher as needed regarding the effectiveness of the learning for your child. It is expected that students are completing about two hours of literacy and one hour of numeracy learning each day. The learning should have the appropriate challenge with a balance of revision of concepts and the learning of a new concept in every lesson. If your child is taking much longer than this to compete tasks, or is completing quickly, talk to the teacher about the success criteria provided to assist your child to determine that tasks have been done effectively. The small group WebEx sessions are especially important for differentiating and reinforcing the learning for your child and assessing the development of concepts; it is vital your child does not miss these sessions. Additionally, the specialists are providing easy to follow lessons each week for your child to do at the familys convenience. Onsite Learning for Students (work permits required and parents not at home) Parents requesting onsite learning for their children should continue to provide work permits (if these have not already been received) outlining the days both parents are working away from home doing authorised, essential work. Enrolments can be done for the remaining days of the term on the one form as long as the appropriate documentation is provided or following a discussion with leadership regarding support for vulnerable students. NAPLAN results for Years 3 and 5 We have received the NAPLAN results for the Year 3 and 5 students and are currently putting these in envelopes for distribution to families. You will receive a message from your childs teacher soon regarding how these will be delivered in the coming week. Our school results were positive with some excellent results in some areas. The mean scores for our Year 3 students in writing and reading increased from previous years and were higher than all other groups including State, Region, Metro, Local Government Area (LGA) and SFOE band. Year 5 writing was also strong and higher than all, but equal to the LGA. Year 5 numeracy also increased from all previous years and surpassed all other groups. We had very good high growthresults from Year 3-5 for many Year 5 students in Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Grammar and Punctuation. Principal Awards Today I am acknowledging the work of three of our students. Floyd H 6C, Bella H 5C and Asher B 5B who worked diligently and independently to complete their tasks, seeking clarification of criteria when required in order to produce the highest standard of work. Congratulations to these students. Take care everyone, Julie Soutter KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK EVERYONE DURING REMOTE LEARNING SPRING HAS SPRUNG LOVING THE SUN!
