throughout spring
Visit the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail to experience a kaleidoscope of color as desert wildflowers bloom throughout the spring.
Join Garden Docents for specialized tours of the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail. Tours are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.
During the months of March and April, visit the Garden’s Wildflower InfoSite at dbg.org/wildflowers to find out where to see this season’s displays of desert wildflowers. Click on the “Statewide Wildflower Sightings” under News on the right side of the Garden’s homepage.

Thursday is the new Friday and DBG is the hippest locale to start the weekend. Only at DBG can you eat, drink and be merry in a marvelous outdoor desert setting.
Spiked! tickets cover general Garden admission, including the Allan Houser: Tradition to Abstraction exhibit, first-class local music and appetizers prepared by Atlasta Catering & Event Concepts. The Desert Botanical Garden and Scottsdale Artists League will co–sponsor the annual Spring Paintout. More than 40 of the league’s best landscape artists will set up their easels at the Garden and paint every Saturday in March. The public is encouraged to interact with them and see art and nature in new ways. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Desert Botanical Garden and the Scottsdale Artists League’s Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit www.scottsdaleartistsleague.org.

Stroll through the beautiful Marshall Butterfly Pavilion and surround yourself with hundreds of fluttering butterflies. Watch as they sip nectar from plants and perch in the sun. Our special display areas feature butterfly host plants and an activity tent where you can see our scaly–winged friends up close.

The Desert Botanical Garden invites you to a colorful celebration for the opening of the Spring Butterfly Exhibit. Enjoy breakfast prepared by Atlasta Catering and Event Concepts, followed by children’s entertainment and butterfly–related activities. All guests will receive admission to the Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Butterfly Pavilion. Children will receive their own pair of butterfly wings to wear and take home.
Breakfast will be served buffet style from 9 – 10 a.m., followed by entertainment and activities from 10 – 11 a.m. Guests can redeem admission into the Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Butterfly Pavilion after breakfast service is complete at 10 a.m.
Open seating. Guests will be seated together at tables of ten. Tickets are limited. Advance ticket purchase required. No refunds or exchanges on ticket(s) purchased. Programming subject to change.

The Garden’s new Spring Butterfly Luncheon infuses youthful spirit with sophistication. Enjoy a buffet lunch prepared by Atlasta Catering & Event Concepts, the acoustic quartet Hot Club of Phoenix, and admission to the Maxine & Jonathan Marshall Butterfly Pavilion. Following lunch will be an interactive presentation by eco-ista Terri Nacke of La Bella Terre, Botany for the Body. Guests will enjoy a playful afternoon of legend and lore and will create and take a custom-scented aromatherapy mist, a mineral dusting powder for bed & body and a watercolor botanical-inspired postal card.

The Desert Botanical Garden Plant Sale is a one–stop shopping experience with one of the largest selections of arid–adapted plants available in a single location. Garden volunteers and horticulturists are on hand to answer questions, assist in plant selections and provide advice. Purchase pottery and other delightful garden accessories from specialty retailers. There is also a used book sale offering a wide variety of subjects with all proceeds benefiting the Garden’s library. (Book donations are accepted at Garden admissions at the front entrance. Sorry, no magazines.)

The Desert Botanical Garden is pleased to present an exhibition of work by Apache master sculptor Allan Houser. Considered one of the best–known and celebrated American Indian artists of the 20th century, Allan Houser’s work has been widely recognized throughout the world. The exhibition is located at both the Desert Botanical Garden and the Heard Museum.
The Garden exhibit features 18 sculptures in bronze that reflect the modernist influences on Houser’s work. Also, be sure to visit Ottosen Gallery to see Allan Houser’s children’s book illustrations on display. The Heard Museum exhibit features paintings, sketches and small–scale sculptures from their collection.
Garden members who show their membership card at the Heard Museum will receive $2 off up to two adult or senior admissions. All children under age 18 accompanied by the visiting member will be admitted free.
