Transcript of Spring Cook Up Brochure 2012
2 Feb - 31 Mar
Cook Up is the creative heart of BAC – everything we do to invent the future of theatre starts here. We support artists to develop new ideas, we offer opportunities for people of all ages to get creative and we host events across the building. We also provide a warm welcome with food and drink for building visitors who come to hang out and soak up the atmosphere. And our Cook Up seasons include new Scratch ideas, runs of shows, music, parties and the some of the most exciting new shows touring to London.
Several times a year we present special projects that take over large parts of the building. These projects often transform the space and enable audiences to enjoy new perspectives on BAC’s home, Batter-sea’s former Town Hall. Tuck In projects provide you with a feast of new work and experiences to enjoy together.
Bursting out of the walls of BAC, our co-productions developed in partnership with artists are now starting to be presented across London, nationally and internation-ally, providing you with a chance to see the future of theatre in sites and venues across the UK and beyond.

Talk to us
2012 will be an exciting year for London, and an exciting one for Battersea Arts Centre too.
We’re launching the year with our third Cook Up season and the journey starts with the premiere of an epic voyage, Odyssey, a co-production between The Paper Cinema and BAC.
Our Spring Cook Up is six nights a week over nine weeks, with premieres and long runs, new Scratch ideas, debates, tours, comedy and music, all served up with food and drink for audi-ences and artists to share, You’ll have the chance to explore our wonderful spaces, discover the unexpected, laugh, challenge, sit back, join in and feed back. You can click through the programme week by week, so whatever date you choose to visit BAC you can easily see what’s on. During the day our Café Bar and The Bees Knees (our indoor garden for 0-5’s) is open from Monday to Friday, with artists in residence across the building.
We warmly invite you to come and meet us and find out about our plans for the rest of 2012 and beyond. We will be discussing six exciting new projects for BAC on Wednesday 15 February before Odyssey or on Tuesday 6 March before We Hope You’re Happy (Why Would We Lie?). You would be extremely welcome to come and find out more, it would be great to see you.

Climb the stairs, unearth forgotten treasures, listen to the build-ings’ tale. Taking the Old Town Hall and its history as inspiration, classes from our neighbouring schools have been using sound, light, film and performance to tell their own stories and design this amazing installation for you to come and explore. Work-ing with artists Sheila Ghelani, Ruth Paton and Kirsty Harris, Falconbrook, Sacred Heart, Furzedown and St Mary’s Primary Schools invite you into an enchanted forest of stories.
In March 2012 international innovators Forced Entertainment will spend a week’s residency at BAC working on their latest project, which will receive its UK premiere at BAC as part of the LIFT 2012 Festival in June before returning in the autumn. In this new work the group turn their attention to narrative – deconstructing and reconstructing something like a ghost story. Employing devices from amateur dramatics, puppet thea-tre, song and naive dance, they tell an epic story that is resolutely too big for the stage.
