TALK: The Art of Hanging – displaying art in your home (12noon Sun 19th May)Been put off buying a piece of art because you don’t know where it’s going to fit? It is often hard to find space in our homes to fit it all our art purchases in; and a gallery wall is a great solution. A gallery wall is a wall hung with lots of pictures or items – often called a ‘salon style hang’ named after the annual exhibition held by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The most famous salon style hanging in London nowadays is The Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. Come along to hear Louisa Warfield, Art Consultant, on how to “get the hang” of hanging a gallery wall and general tips on hanging art in your home. www.louisawarfieldart.com

Teddington Riverside a new residential development beside the River Thames at Teddington Lock is proving a popular example to all developers by supporting local artists, with their works taking centre stage in the show apartments.Works from nine artists using a variety of different mediums including oil paintings, ceramics, prints and glass have been included in the spectacular apartments.
Teddington Riverside has been developed by Pinenorth Properties Limited, a subsidiary of City Developments Limited.Eugenie Ropner Head of Sales and Marketing, said: “we wanted the local community to feel part of the scheme, to create a unique and contemporary space and therefore liked the interior designer, Henrietta Holroyd’s proposal, to source art from local artists for the show apartment interiors.”
The aim at Teddington Riverside was to design a timeless and contemporary interior, set against the spectacular backdrop of Teddington Lock.“The result is that the art and furniture in these apartments are bespoke and reflect this unique and wonderful location beside the River Thames on the site of the historic Teddington Studios,” added Ropner.Henrietta Holroyd commented: “having done careful research beforehand to think about what would be suitable for the show homes, we sourced many works of art from local Open Studios in Kingston, Richmond and Wimbledon. It was particularly special to have the opportunity to meet the artists.” The numerous works of art bought for the apartments includes artwork from three generations of one Teddington artist family; the Kells - Jane, her late father and her daughter Alice, each working in a different genre. Grand-daughter Alice Kell, took a foundation in art at a local university, and is now studying for a degree in art.
Teddington Riverside, designed by award-winning architects Hamiltons, comprises 217 apartments, available with 1-, 2- and 3-bedrooms; six new-build houses and the original restored Weir Cottage.
