BLUSH

Let’s get right to the point! Baby oil is made of mineral oil. Mineral oil is something completely foreign to the human body. It's a synthetic oil, which is a by-product of the distillation process from gasoline (and crude oil). What would make us apply such a product to our children? I think for the most part, because its cheap and abundant so manufacturers sell it to us and tell us it's good for our skin. And, sadly the general public is unaware. So - ‘buyer-beware”! In a nutshell – commercial baby oil is harmful to our health.Mineral oil acts as a thin layer on the skin. It is difficult to absorb and clogs the pores, which slows the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins. Our skin plays a large role in the body's detoxification through sweat. If pores are blocked, the toxins remain in the body for a longer period of time. This alone can be harmful. If mineral oil is ingested, it is broken down by the liver and passes through the intestinal tract. Once in the intestines, mineral oil can absorb all of the fat-soluble vitamins found there. So all those organic foods and vitamin supplements you spend all your money on will get robbed by mineral oil and your body never gets the benefits.Mineral oil and petrochemicals have no need to be in skincare and should never be used on babies, adults or animals.

What can be used instead of commercial baby oil?We are blessed to have an array of pure vegetable based oils. For children, my favourite carrier oils are jojoba, coconut and calendula. These oils are safe and gentle for babies skin. Jojoba oil is said to relieve the symptoms of psoriasis and conditions of the scalp, hair and relieves cradle cap. While calendula oil is widely known for its healing properties for slow healing wounds, sores cuts and burns. And coconut oil is a stable oil with a lengthy shelf life and is light, non-greasy and non-staining making it a good choice for use in massage and skincare formulations. So if you’ve got a fussy baby or a child that is anxious and has trouble falling asleep, try this gentle oil formula prior to bedtime along with Scent Baby Essential oil blend (Cedarwood, Lavender, Tangerine, Roman Chamomile).

Q: Is there a big difference between ‘cold pressed’ grade oil and ‘refined’ oil?

A: Yes, there is. With cold pressed oils, there is low heat mechanical extraction used where temperatures are rigorously controlled not to exceed 80 – 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Although not a

practical method of extraction for all vegetable oils on the market, it is the extraction method of choice for delicate food grade oils. In refined oils, it is fully processed oil that is exposed to flash fluctuation in temperature as high as 450 degrees and as low as -30 degrees, deodorization to remove heavy odour,

and natural clay bleaching to alter colour and scent. This produces an economical oil for cosmetics and body care products.

Q: What is Hyaluronic Acid? I see that it’s an ingredient contained in your Supreme Serum

(which I love by the way)!

A: I refer to Hyaluronic Acid (HA) as “Nature’s moisture magnet”! Yes, this is a key ingredient in our Serum because of it’s amazing ability to bind moisture to tissue, therefore will soften, smooth, tone and rehydrate the skin. A single molecule of HA can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water and

with the help of other antioxidants (Vitamin C, alpha lipoic acid, CoQ10, DMAE, and organic extracts of bilberry) it helps to enhance their effect. Hyaluronic Acid is naturally produced by skin cells and is

found in great abundance in your skin, however, with age, the body’s production of HA decreases.

Q: I have never used a face toner but I hear it’s good for your skin. Why use a toner?

A: Toning is considered step 2 in your daily skincare regime. Some people often leave this step out and yet it is just as important as the cleansing of your skin or the moisturizing. It is a must to include

this step. The one or two minutes it takes are worth every second if you desire to have healthy, vibrant skin with a minimum of lines and wrinkles. Don't leave this step out.You have just spent time cleaning your skin, ridding it of stale oils, makeup, dead skin cells and other impurities, now you have to tone

your skin and also, prepare it for moisturization. If you’re using a quality cleanser, such as our Chamomile Cleanser, it contains natural clay, which helps to remove dead skin cells and other

impurities, but may not rinse off totally. This is why you need to use a quality toner. Firstly, it removes every last bit of the cleanser such as the fine clay particles and other residues from the cleansing process. Secondly it will close the skin's pores to protect it from further loss of moisture, which

invariably happens when cleansing your face. Thirdly it provides nutrients and restores the pH balance of your skin. So truly it’s worth spending an additional minute or two.
